needing examples and executive dysfunction
so I'm trying to do my uni work and I've got very stuck because I need to think of examples to demonstrate principles or concepts and my mind is just blank. I need to think of an example for how the principle that both genetics and evironment influence development has affected my life. The obvious thing to say would be that genetics are responsible for the neuro-developmental disorder that I have but how I cope with that disorder has been strongly influenced by the people in my life. But I don't want to say that I have a neuro-developmental disorder partly because I don't have a diagnosis yet and obviously because revealing that might expose me to discrimination. So I want to think of something else but I'm just stuck on that. I also need to think of examples to demonstrate Piaget's stages of development and scaffolding but finding this extremely hard right now. So if anyone has any examples they can share that would help trigger some thoughts???
Also, I wonder if I were to have executive dysfunction whether this would explain this difficulty? It reminds me of the thread up here a little while ago where the question was asked how many animals can you think of that start with s and we had a minute to do it. I got stuck on snake and couldn't think of anything else despite giving myself unlimited time. Also, find it so much easier to respond to other people's threads and struggle to initiate my own - this is a first. Also, seem to get sort of stuck in space quite often where I just need someone to tell me what to do or else I just don't seem to know what I should be doing. very scared to submit this now -ahhh
This is really typical for people on the spectrum, from what I've learned. I was just recently diagnosed and my doctor reviewed the test results with me. Part of the testing focused on working memory with a similar exercise to the one you mentioned. I did really poorly on it... LOL. It's definitely not unusual, that's for sure.
As for an example, how about alcoholism?

Maybe simple things like height, body-shape - they are the result of both genetics and environment. Think about how your parents' height or body shape and the nutrition and maybe exercise you had through your life has made you the height or shape that you are. If you are different in height to your parents, why?
I.e. try something simple and unrelated to ASD.
Water it down. Talk about genetics in terms of perception or processing instead of neurology. Explain how you think your genetic heritage effects your perception and how you adapt your behavior to deal with those differences. Don't use terminology like "neurological disorder". Just be more generic.
What type of class is this for?

Thanks everyone. I just can't believe how stuck I get. so very frustrating. my brain is just not working today.
just came up with something a bit different but sort of a watered down version.
talked about the formation of my personality which is a combination of biologically based tendencies as well as the result of my upbringing and experiences in life.
that will do. it's for a subject on 'learning' for primary education.
don't know how on earth I'm actually going to be a primary teacher but anyway at least I am trying.
