When I talk to people, I barely look at their face while talking. It makes me feel nervous when I do. Anyone else here have that problem?

I don't like looking at them when I am talking to them unless I have sunglasses on. It's easier to keep eye contact with sunglasses, but maybe I still look away without realizing it.

I'm like this also. It's very common among Aspies.

I'm sure the most of us had.

However this is something you can work on. Try playing the staring game with photos of people that you find intimidating. After you get used to that, in casual, brief situations, such as greeting the teller at the supermarket, look them straight in the eye, and say "Hello"

You don't have to hold the gaze. When you can do that without it becoming to much, you can work on looking more in the direction of people's faces during conversation....many of us watch the mouth instead of the eyes. This is ok. People generally can't tell unless you are very close to them.

Here's a trick - look at their nose, they can't tell the difference.

I don't know... they might ask why you're crossing your eyes if you do that, haha.

I look at their mouth or nose. Looking at their nose will not cross your eyes, but looking at your's will. I actually works pretty well.

I have trouble with this... but then i don't. If I am silently interested in something someone is talking about and can scan their entire appearance and sometimes get locked on their eyes but direct eye contact is extremely uncomfortable for me. If i am looking at someone and they look into my eyes it almost has a physical sensation that isn't pleasant. I hate that averting your eyes has so many different meanings i hate being perceived as lacking confidence or meek or a liar... i don't feel any thing that resembles that when i choose to not look someone in the eyes.

When talking to people I always tend to look at their mouth, I barely make eye contact when talking to someone, it makes me feel uncomfortable and when I do make eyecontact I find me staring too long in the other person's eyes.

The only eye contact that I am good at involves sticking my finger in their eye.

It doesn't usually help with friendships.

Seriously,

I can look you in the eyes or I can concentrate on the conversation. I can't do both. I have found losing track of a conversation mid sentence is worse than not looking people in the eyes.

I don't look people in the eye unless I plan on making out with them.
