Meltdown intervention that worked...
I was in the mental health office the other day, in crisis... I seriously had a meltdown in front of a social worker... She asked "can I give you a hug, would that help?" I said "No! Physical touch when this happens makes it worse!" Then the lady said "Can I play bird videos on YouTube for you?" I said "I'll turn on the bird sounds on my phone." As the birds names were read on the recordings followed by the songs and calls I started describing and giving facts about all the birds... I instantly calmed down the lady said "see THAT'S the real you!" Then I told her some people thought I was like this because I'm on the autism spectrum but my psychiatrist said no. She said "some mental health workers don't really know what they're doing..."
I wonder if this lady dealt with people in meltdown before?
