What do you suppose a university comprised of all aspies would look like? There would probably be far fewer parties, no group projects, no huge lecture halls, and they'd probably make roommates optional. I don't think they'd need noise ordinance laws as everyone would be in their dorms by themselves studying or playing video games with one or two friends, no wild dorm parties to contend with. The class material would probably be primarily visually presented, with plenty of pictures and written instructions to support it, and the library would probably be the campus hotspot. What do you think, if there were such a thing as a university designed specifically for aspies, students and teachers alike, what would it look like, and would you attend? I definitely think I would; I think it would make my life a lot easier as far as sensory and processing challenges go. Sure, it would be hard to make friends with such a reclusive lot, but I don't make friends with the NTs on my campus anyway, so there would be no real difference.

I didn't go to this hypothetical aspie college, but I did go to (and am currently at) the closest college to it in the world.

There were parties, mostly involving building things, setting things on fire, and doing weird things instead of normal partying.
I didn't do any group projects for my classes, but there were a few classes (engineering) with group projects for building things.
There were large lecture halls, with the max class size = whole freshman class < 250 people, but also tiny classes of three.
I had a single room for three years and a roommate for one year, and most of the rooms in my dorm were singles.
People spent most of their time in their dorms or on campus studying, playing video games, and doing all kinds of weird things.
The class material was usually presented as 3 x 3 blackboards covered in math, regardless of what the subject of the class was.
The library was not the campus hotspot, and few people regularly visited the library, since most things were online.
Several terms of physical education were required for graduation, and there were people who failed PE.
I am in the process of becoming a lifer who fits in purrrfurrrtly at this place but can't assimilate anywhere else in the world.

I have AvPD (Avoidant Personality Disorder). It seems like an aspie college would also be conducive to the mental health of those of us with AvPD.

I remember when I was doing my college rounds visiting MIT. I really felt like it was an Aspie college. Caltech is probably even Aspier. When I chose to go to another college and began as an advanced Physics major, I think I was surrounded by Aspies who never partied and who would stay up late on Saturday nights talking about Stokes' Theorem. So I actually think they are already out there.

This.

I attended BCIT. Their main campus is a commuter campus. There are very few dorms on site. Most people commute in, study their ass off, work on homework/projects/teamwork, go home & catch a nap and come back to do it all over again. There's no partying unless you're going to attend some event thrown by the people in Marketing Management. I completed 130.5 credits there in 2 years, and was also on the Student Association in my 2nd year. It was an extremely difficult challenge to get through, but in so many ways it was Aspie-perfect because there was no time for socializing, no dorms for dorm parties, no time or energy for parties and all that stuff anyways. Just work, work, and more work. On the first day we were told if you're not in a relationship, don't start one. If you are in one, it may not last through this. etc. So, it wasn't odd at all not to have a significant other in my life, either, as very very few people made any time for that stuff while going to this school. Again, very Aspie friendly in that sense.

You can go into the computer lab any day/time and find people working on their keyboards.

Maybe the pace isn't entirely Aspie friendly. It was definitely trying for me. Drove me nuts for a while.

But it's very Aspie friendly in the sense that it's all studies, no parties, almost no socializing at all outside of your teams in your classes. It's an all work and no play school - perfect for those who just want to put their nose to the grindstone and study/learn vs. go hang out and party for 4 years. That's very Aspie friendly, IMO.

The main reason I didn't go to MIT was because I noticed that people weren't practicing hygiene, and my nose is super sensitive. The smell of dirty laundry was overwhelming.

This sounds great. I hated how so many students at my college were shallow and not intellectually mature. College students who do stupid things like get drunk and rowdy are clearly not college material.

Yeah, college students should be making, purifying, and analyzing their drinks before they get drunk instead.

there are special colleges in the UK for people with ASD-including aspergers.
one is called bridge college in offerton near manchester, which has recently started acepting high functioning autistics to own knowledge.
was almost a student of it a good few years back but because funding for placements stops at twenty five years old was considered to old to start a course.

being with all autistic people is probably the hardest group of all as we all have complex needs and differences which often clash against each other,am going by having lived with fellow autists for entire life though and not schooling.

No they should not be drinking alcohol in the first place. They should be more intellectually mature than that.
