Okay, here I thought I was maybe finally getting over being weirdo, and that maybe I got enough social training to be normal. And then I realized by replying to all these threads. That well...I'm a weirdo still.

Anyone ever have those moments? Where they don't realize their own behavior in the real world and then when you really think about it, you go...oh wait...nevermind?

Like I realized I have a real problem with being uncomfortable in public places. I'm uneasy and will do the pacing dance until I give up and just leave. This includes eating by myself, going to stores by myself, movies, etc.

See, I had thought oh I don't have a problem with pacing any more. And then really studying my day I was like....oh...well...wait nevermind.

Anyone else have this moments? Where you think you're doing normal and you're okay? Then you think about it and have an "oh s**t moment"

Yes definitely. One moment you see something (or someone mentions something) and you think "I don't do that", and then you think a little more and you realise "oh sh** yeah I do that".

lool.

It really is an oh s**t moment. Here you're living your perfectly normal life to realize the whole world is probably think you just escaped a loony bin.

Especially me, I'm a talker. I talk to myself in public.

Yes, I do that too, at home I talk to myself often, in public I try not to but sometimes it just "slips" lol. Even worse if I'm reading (I used to take the bus to go to work and I usually was reading on the way home and to work), either laugh or make a comment on the book (p.s. people still look at you funny when it happens lol).

I keep telling myself I need to stop "thinking" out loud.

I know right.

I do try not to talk to myself. Just ends up happening when I have a lot of task and things on my mind. I start talking out my day.

If anyone was really paying attention enough, I'm sure I'd be an easy target for a stalker. lool.

Every time I get through a day and think "Oh, didn't talk to anyone again today..."

When I was younger, I was either too shy or because I didnt have a clue what to say would keep quiet in company.

Now Iam much older, and have the confidence to talk and join in, Iam realising that maybe I was better off when I was quite because now people can see how weird Iam, its only when I look at myself afterwards and compare it to how otherpeople act and talk that I see it for myself and would cringe if I saw somebody else behaving in the way I dont see myself behaving.

Those moments that are either really awkward or really funny...

I've been lurking here for a few weeks now, and this has happened to me so many times it's almost commonplace now. Thankfully mostly in private. Because I hardly ever go out.

I talk to myself all the time, especially when I have a lot on my mind. Once when I caught myself doing it, I tried to stop and failed.

EMBRACE THE WEIRD!

I gave up a long time ago. I moderate my weirdness for public consumption. But I don't try to be normal.

I've been having those moments on WP a lot. Until June of this year, I had no idea what AS actually was, or that it might apply to me. There have been many threads on here that I've read and thought, "Wow. I do that all. the. time. I had no idea it was unusual." Or, "Wow. I never do that. Maybe I'm wrong to think I'm an Aspie. Oh, wait. Actually, I do do that. A lot. "

Yes, I can definitely relate to this thread. In fact, I find it hard to be "myself" around NTs because I'm afraid of saying/doing something cringeworthy. Kinda interesting how we can see something is inappropriate if someone else does it, but not If we do it ourselves.

I think its just that its so natural for us. That when we actually think about it in context, we realize oh dear...that's not socially acceptable.

What the hell people. If others around you attempt to govern your natural behavior to to hell with them. I say be yourself and if folks don't like that stick your tong at them.
