does this happen to anyone else? Despite being the best part of 30 I always get nervous when entering a nightclub, especially when I'm sober.

On a number of occasions I have been turned away from entering a nightclub without reason. I know they have the right to do that but there is always a reason. I think bouncers must think I'm on drugs or something. On two recent occasions I have been told 'no' on the basis that I am "too drunk" - and on both occasions I'd not had a drop to drink.

This is blatantly a spectrum thing - the walk, the eyes, lack of confidence etc. it's a pain tho cos it puts me off going to nightclubs

take a breathalizer with you next time....or just tell them I have AS and I look like this all the time.

People used to ask me all the time if I were on drugs, my response was no I come by this natrually

I forgot people used to think I was always on drugs, until I read this.

my friends have often described me as 'constantly stoned'. they always get the same reply: "If only." I suppose door supervisors can't be blamed, how are they to know? and I certainly am not going to be disclosing my condition on the high street in front of the world and his wife!

I've had some bad encounters with the police because of this. I really have no more tolerance for it from them, they can't believe the attitude I'll get.

If you're the guy in your avatar I can see why haha. No offense you look like a cool guy but if those are dreads and you're constantly are wearing hoodies they probably think you're stoned.

Don't know about night clubs, as I've never been to one. But I get funny looks and comments from police, security people and shop staff occasionally - typically they'll say "is everything allright, Sir?" and as long as I can run a good "Mr. Normal" script in time, they usually let me be. They probably think I look a bit drunk or odd, what with my slightly clumsy gait and poor awareness of dress codes and social airs. There's no point in me smuggling drugs. The customs people seem to think I have a label on me that says "I demand a strip search."

Tell them you have autism and maybe even bring a card with you, and if they turn you away for having autism, you can sue for discrimination.

I haven't been turned away from a night club but something strange did happen to me once. I went to this cozy neighborhood bar that had no cover charge. I had been there a while when this guy, I guess he worked there, started going to the tables demanding people pay him a dollar covercharge. I don't know if he would have kicked me out if I didn't pay. It was peculiar that he would want to collect money after everyone was already inside.

Yeah, thats me. I don't have dreads though, but my hair is usually in a constant state of always being dreaded. The thing is though, I got the same treatment when I had a normal short haircut.

Prior to someone at the door knowing there is (or even might be) a disorder involved, it would *not* be discrimination since *all* people are being observed and all appearing drunk or stoned are being treated equally.

exactly. that's why i don't blame door staff / security etc. But I'm certainly not going to mention autism either - i'm not ashamed, i just don't think it's anyone else's business

Trying to sue will be unlikely to work, all nightclubs maintain that they reserve the right to refuse entry.

I have never been a great fan of clubbing, but I used to sometimes go to a 1950s rock and roll club where they play live jive music, jive is jolly good fun but hardwork on both the body and mind.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.
