Wow, nice contrast to my other post. Oh well...people say that Aspies can be hypo sensitive to things like heat or cold. Apparently some children are even hypo sensitive towards pain so they don't recognize when they've sprained or fractured a limb.
I use to make the kids at school cringe because I can bite into a Popsicle and feel little to no pain in the nerves in my teeth.

That sounds about right. I notice it's hot or cold when I start shivering or sweating-- and it's the dripping sweat that's uncomfortable, rather than the heat. Also have a fairly high threshold for pain (had my wisdom teeth removed under a local anesthetic, and never took the Rx painkillers I was given), and rarely notice when I am hungry or thirsty (must rely on rules for these: I am sweating, I must drink more water; it is dinner time, I should eat something).

Definitely. My son broke his leg in 2 places when he was 18 months old. The dr didn't realize it was broken. He didn't get a cast for 3 days, but he ate well, slept well at night and took naps, and I never gave him any pain med.

After getting the cast on finally, he pulled it off his leg in the middle of the night. He went through 3 casts before the dr finally gave up and said it was healed well enough on its own.

Yet he would startle and cry if he heard a loud noise or someone ran by him too fast.

I'm reading The Out of Sync Child, which seems to be explaining a lot of his issues.

No, its about Sensory Processing Disorder.

In the intro, the author said that when she was teaching, she was always puzzled by that one child in the room who didn't enjoy the regular classroom activities, which sounded very familiar to me, my husband, and our son.

I have a very high pain threshold. I work in the construction industry and at times it comes in handy in the past I have broken fingers and toes, pulled a nail that went through my hand and went back to work numerous times out of my feet through the boots with a hammer and suffered sprains and lots of bruises I have even been knocked out cold twice for a few minutes only to return to work immediatly on waking. The down side is I am never realy sure if I need medical aid and have to rely on others to tell me. My wife is always upset that I didn't go get help or stickes ect.. When I feel pain and I do it's ussaly fairly bad.

I seem to be hyposensitive to touch in certain areas of my body (eg around my spine) ... but that's made up for by being hypersensitive to touch elsewhere.

Cold.
Some pains. Generally dull pains are fine. Some pain (especially in my mouth) can feel good.

Know some sailors who can feel the wind direction change by how the wind feels on their faces. I have to look for a visual cue such as a tell-tail on a stay to sense/see the wind direction. I cannot feel the wind (much) on my face.

Mostly I hate even mild pain of any kind, though I might not notice it if my mind's occupied with anything that's important to me. But I barely feel hunger or "social fatigue."
