Hello:

I've just built an autism support site in a little under 3 days (could've been faster if I didn't actually have to you know... live) I thought I'd share this with you and if you find it to your liking and useful, you can share the link with your friends and others who might get use out of it. Right now, it's myself, two of my closest friends from work and a guy I know from the UK, but we're working to get the word out as fast as we can and hopefully we'll grow the site even more. I'm not trying to steal members from here, but rather do something so there's more innovation and options in the autism support space.

Here's that link: https://myautism.cf/

Hope you enjoy this.

I think the site is great for only 3 days of work. I can't get a Java program working in 3 days, let alone a full-blown site.

It is very pink, and I personally don't find it very intuitive. Still good for three days however.

Java programs are much more complex than interactive community sites. The particular community platform I use (JemPortal® Social Intranet Platform) is a superset of WinxPortal® Social Intranet Platform (which is what my job uses for their Intranet site). WinxPortal Social Intranet Platform is just a re-branded, re-themed, super modded Version of vBulletin 4.2.3 publishing suite). So if you’re familiar with vbulletin 4 suite, you know how easy it is to one of those sites to be built because of the customization options. The system pretty much does all the hard work for me, I just have to tell it what I want via the adminCP.

I am sure if there was no JemPortal software and I had to build the entire thing from scratch, I’d pull my hair out.

It’s magenta (AI.a “T-Mobile colored”)

Also, I hate image verification. I had to redo it like four times before I got it right.

Two more things, how long should I wait for an email, and can I plug my own blog on this thread, because I haven't done so as far as I remember yet on wrong planet at all.

I don’t care on this thread.

As for emails usually about 5-10 minutes check your spam box. We’re working to get rid of image verification and switching to Q&A

My own blog, that I struggle to write for regularly but do like;
https://www.autistichelpsyou.com/
I'm always looking for people that want to post a blog on my website, do to my own trouble keeping it consistent, and a desire for more diverse view points.

Also, on your site I worry that all of the new member security may scare some people off. Your site is new, and not likely a target.

It’s designed to stay secure from the start that way it doesn’t get sunk by spam. Three posts that need approval usually is too much for the average teenage spam punk kid I’ve noticed. I wanted five, but Jennette convinced me to knock it down to three krystal said any lower than that and you’re just asking trouble any higher and it’s a burden on both members and staff.

We only want to enable global moderation after the initial three post as a last resort before we hit the ban button. In a more optimal world we’d only need one moderator approved post.

We thought this was a nice balance between overly secured corporate intranet and instant access. If I did things entirely my way it would be more locked down.

Also, I’ll get a look at your blog and see if I can spin something up for an article for you.

I think that your site is very awesome. The Jem portal is also a throwback to one of my favourite decades, the 1980s. 8)

Yeah I'd probably be interesting in writing something for your blog.

JemPortal® was originally designed for our MyJem project, but it just blue up in popularity with some of our WinxPortal® Customers, they were demanding upgrades, so we gave it to them :-). Also, I absolutely :heart: :heart: :heart: Jem and the Holograms (the original 1980s show). I wasn’t around for it in first run, but thanks to Netflix I got to experience it. I love that show.

Any topics you'd like to see? Because I have a few ideas, but I'd prefer to see what you're looking for first.

Just about anything autism or co morbidity related is great.
The last three were,

What it is like to Hate Music
Why Autism Exists
Why delta's pit bull ban is illegal

So I would avoid those.

My editor wants to see these topics, so you could consider them;

I've heard about some ways neurotypical communities adapt to help autistic people (IEPs, etc.) but what are some ways that autistic people adapt to communicate better or 'fit in' with neurotypical communities? In a perfect world, would some of these adaptations still be necessary, or would they all be unneeded?

What are some things to remember for people who are friends with or want to make friends with autistic people? Are some ways of communication more effective than others? Are there any 'never do this' kinds of things?

Are there some social conventions that you simply don't understand?
