So my partner is coming to Christmas lunch and my extended family will be there. This is the first ever time my partner has met my family.

I'm really unsure how I go about introducing him to everyone, I don't want to say his name 40 odd times and then say the name of everyone in my family to him. But he's also a little shy.

Do I just say "this is xxxx" and let the family member to introduce themselves?

So define "partner". Is this a boyfriend, a fiancee, or a husband, or what? Each response calls for different handling of the situation.

Partner = boyfriend.

I feel too mature to be calling him a boyfriend :)

Well usually partner equals gay partner, but I saw you were female, so it didn't really add up. But anyway, when it's a boyfriend, you can be a little bit less ginger about it around your parents (for some reason, if it were your fiancee or husband, then your parents and other family would feel extremely betrayed at not knowing ahead of time; why this is I do not know). I figure it makes sense just getting as many people as possible together (so you aren't saying his name forty some odd times :D ) and introducing him that way and then letting the family members introduce themselves to him.

Just say "This is _____ and he is really good with his tongue" and then nobody will ask any more questions :twisted:

I agree! :wink: 8)

Seriously, what BroncosRtheBest said makes sense, too--introduce him to a large group and let everyone else make their own introductions.

I hope both of you have a good time at the lunch. :)
