I have the feeling I can do great things but something, some force is holding me back. I don't know if it's cognition or motivation or what but I'm 37 and would very much to be in a job that's rewarding. I know I can bring a lot of creative ideas to the table.

If there anything I can do to help either figure out what's holding me back or just try to break through whatever it might be.

Initially I thought about listening to bioneural beat waves or whatever. That was bunk. Don't waste your money. Same with self-hypnosis, pink noise and all that.

Are there any pharmaceuticals that could help or what about doing motions of the eye or exercising the brain in various ways to stimulate different regions?

I know, eat well, sleep 8 hours. Set up a routine, exercise...

Good question. I recently posted about trying to be more productive but didn't get many replies.

I hear LifeCoaches can be useful for this kind of thing if you can afford them (I can't).

yeah I've often thought a life coach would be great but can't afford it either.

um I'm pretty much in the same boat but I'll try and think of some ideas (for myself too):

- okay here's something I've done before and it did help but I probably just need to do it again. Get a piece of paper draw a cross to make four categories. label each category like this: top right hand box - WILDEST DREAMs, top left hand box - DREAMs, bottom left hand box - LONG TERM GOALS and bottom right hand box - STRATEGIES/ SHORT TERM GOALS. You can write about your dreams etc or draw pictures or paste pictures to represent them. Basically, the wildest dreams and dreams will be things that seem out of reach but that you'd really like and the long term goals will seem more attainable to you and the strategies will be what you need to do to achieve your long term goal. Once you've achieved your long term goal your dreams may then seem more attainable.

- Another book I highly recommend is 'The Artists Way' by Julia Cameron. The book is a 12 week course involving lots of activities that are designed to help you get over so-called creative blocks in your life - basically the obstacles to you living a more productive/fulfilling/creative life. This book has made a big difference in my life but I've only ever made it to week 6 so I should read it again too!

Each week you read one chapter and you have a list of things to do. I'll give an example so you get the idea:
- '8. Imaginary livesIf you had five different lives to lead what would you do in each of them? I would be a pilot, a cowhand, a physicist, a psychic, a monk...The point of these lives is to have fun in them - more fun than you might be having in this one. Look over your list and select one. Then do it this week. For instance, if you put down country singer, can you pick a guitar? If you dream of being a cowhand, what about some horseback riding?'

- umm other ideas, search the internet for something you can study - if you're working or busy or houseboundish you can study lots of things by correspondence these days.

Okay there's three ideas, I hope other people have some ideas too.

For me, this is about: This planet RUNS on "BLOAT SELLS".

Bloat "IS" "Sensory Overload".

So I can EITHER:
Use all my energy dealing with bloat.
OR: use my energy to design creative products.

This may not work in "The Workplace", because it runs on: giving the planet what it is "Told to Want" (by Advertising).

But is "Can" work for some Artists / Designers IF:
They can learn to avoid "Bloat",
AND: they have a Market.

You don't seem to have a defined idea of what your goal is, so establish that, or determine your limiting factors and then attempt to deal with them.

Brain exercises won't necessarily get you a job. Hypnosis is a great tool, but you need a goal with it. I don't see what pink noise has to do with hypnosis, that sounds more like the domain of brainwave entrainment.

NTs face similar problems - a backlash from their family, friends, and community when they want to do something unconventional and actually try and achieve their dreams. To succeed you must first ignore this.

Oh don't you worry, I will take on any Neurotypical if they try anything. I've been fighting their kind since I was 14 way back in the 90's.

How do you define success and "great things"? If you do not have realistic concepts of these, you will always be frustrated.

I've thought about this a lot. I am not remotely successful. I have a menial job even though I have a college degree and an above average IQ. I think I lost a lot of years to depression and then to a drinking problem that started from self medicating for depression and social awkwardness. I think an inability to define a goal has been part of it and also fear of success. I think fear of success is just fear of failure once removed. Success will require you to maintain that success and it will require that you be able to interact with people . I think I'd personally have to be hugely marketable to be able to overcome those obstacles. I mean the sort of situation where they come to you for what you can offer and you don't have to struggle with marketing yourself.

One thing that I find useful is called Brain Gym.
It is a series of movements that co-ordinate the body, frequently crossing the vertical axis (left and right sides of the body). Brain Gym can also involve eye tracking. The movements are simple.
The idea is that the brain is stimulated and integrated by the physical movements.
