Diagnosed with AS today

I can report that I was at the autism service today and met with a psychiatrist who also specialises in ASDs. After a meeting which lasted an hour and a half, I have now been diagnosed with AS.

Much of the interview focused on my childhood and past experiences, not simply a snapshot at this point in time, so I would say things were cleverly done from that point of view. We were able to go over in quite some depth my symptoms in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interaction and special/obsessive interests, as well as many other facets with respect to now and the past.

Like absolutely everyone else on my voyage of AS discovery, the lady I met today was left in no doubt I'm an Aspie. My diagnosis has been an astoundingly easy, smooth and quick process - all despite having to go through several doctors in order to get a dx. I'm aware that's unlike a lot of people. It would be easy to say I was lucky with the doctors, but rather this seems to testify to me being such a clear cut, obvious case of AS.

I'm not really sure what to say here... Congratulations doesn't seem entirely appropriate for this kind of situation, but I can't think of anything else, so congratulations on officially being an Aspie!

Well, "congratulations on being an Aspie" is a lot like "congratulations on finding out that the lump is malignant". It's appropriate in the context that someone has been seeking an answer and now they have one. The answer isn't neccessarily something worth celebrating. I can picture the conversation now: "Dude, you're getting a Dell!" "Yeah, but you've got brain damage! Some people have all the luck. High-fives, dude!" "Dude!"

Good luck, and congrats on actually getting a diagnosis (dunno if it's the diagnosis you wanted,) but congrats on finally knowing for sure rather than wondering "am I/aren't I?

Well, it was the diagnosis I knew for sure in advance I had. It was the diagnosis absolutely no-one could dispute I'd have. And overall it's a relief, though so was my chance meeting with AS in the first place.
