Video calls and eye contact issue

Realized a hidden benefit to video calls today. My "eye contact" has never been better as I am looking at my computer screen the camera is positioned so that it appears I am looking at the other participants.

With the camera offset, time lags, and resolution of video calls, the best eye contact available still does not give me that uncomfortable jolt of immersion that a live encounter can. I can study other participants without risking rudeness. I am also surprised at how animated my own face actually is sometimes.
