Does anybody else get angry and annoyed when watching News on TV?

I can't watch because a lot of News are just stupid things that could be fixed easily, or trivial things over emphasized for emotional reaction/drama, or straight up propaganda/one sided things.

I much prefer get my news online where I can quickly discern whats worthy of my attention.

Yes.

Yes, but not so much.

The news of late has become very shallow. The same stories are re-hashed over several days. A lot of the news is "sponsored" by those seeking publicity, be it MPs or medical scientists, or celebrities.

Either that, or we are, sadly, shown gratuitous footage of buildings being blown to bits and people being put in awful situations.

The news is a form of pornography, crafted to push our buttons and addict us to the thrill of outrage or fear or other stimulation. For the sake of my own peace of mind, I try to get a sense of what's going on from the Internet and then not dwell on it overmuch.

FWIW, the 1976 film, "Network", captured the essence of where the media was taking us. That film was brilliant and prescient.

I have never owned a TV set. I do, however, recommend reading Jerry Mander's "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television." Why do you complain here, instead of just not watching?

I really can't stand watching news on the TV. My mom is always watching CNN and it upsets me.

haven't had television in maybe a decade... upon visiting family, who usually have it on at least for background noise, it has been noted that it has not gone missed. the commercials are probably the worst part, since they shamelessly run at a raised volume in comparison to the shows, and try to make people pay attention by using familiar sounds like that of vibrating cell phones or even trying to call upon potentially owned voice recognition devices in the home to intrude upon the senses of those that aren't even watching or those who walk away during commercial breaks. there comes a point when one might ask why anyone would pay money only to be relentlessly slammed with such repetitive intrusive content, let alone $60+ a month when the shows could just be bought on dvd or blu-ray for a fraction of the price and watched seamlessly on one's own schedule.

as for news, yeah, never cared for it(most of it isn't even more than a few seconds of actual "news" running out the rest of the clock with excessive drama and self serving biased sentiments. if a news channel instigates things like hate crimes and riots in selling such charged content, as they already do, the owners should be seized, cuffed, charged as accomplices to the crimes, and stripped of up to all their assets to pay off the total damages they've caused... only then could a news station be bothered to only air "news" without furthering their own agendas.), cold case shows, reality television, talk shows, dysfunctional family shows, small claims court shows, etc... they're all angled to rally ugly emotions because people are more likely to stay tuned to hearing of turbulent messages than they are to neutral or uplifting ones.

If the news is a form of pornography I'm way off the mark when looking for my 'other stimulation' haha. Although the form of pornography I search hasn't become an addiction, something I fear or am outraged by.... on the other hand (usually right) there is thrill.

Television was better 30 years ago. At least then, you could put a vase of flowers on top of the set.

Its highly irritating. I don't watch the news on television anymore, but when I read the news I get annoyed with the over dramatic stories and lies. Sometimes just reading the headline annoys me because I can tell its going to be BS, especially headlines stating "new studies show!..." because most of the time its also BS and bad science.

When the Soviet Union was crumbling, there was a Lithuanian rock band whose name meant "Duck" or "Canard." It was always written as a logo, in the exact same typeface as the newspaper called Pravda, or "Truth." By then, everyone knew that they only published stories that made the government look good, but when they'd go on a particularly daft zinger, people would laugh, and say "What a Duck!"

"It is a sad state of affairs when people get their amusement on the news show, and their news on the comedy show."

I don't get it. How do other people watch the news and not be completely suicidal? Especially if the watch it late at night when they show the really grim stuff, and go to bed with all that in their mind? Are they really that desensitized, or are their own lives so devoid of anything even slightly exciting or interesting that they have to watch it for the drama?

Some people say ignoring the world's problems on the news won't make it go away. Well here's a shocker: watching it won't make it go away at all, either. I'm sick of it.

Although I have noticed that the American news is "trump trump trump trump, trump trump, war death trump", while the Canadian news has a story about a squirrel caught on tape stealing a chocolate bar from a convenience store.

I just don't watch TV at all.
I don't like the fact that you wait passively for whatever that shows up on TV.

I prefer the internet much more, where you can just find relevant information you wanted.

+1

TV news is too much entertainment, and poitical debates are just performances.

In general I prefer reading my news; it's less intense.

The trouble with TV is that "seeing is believing" but editing can turn almost any story into anything else, and frequently does.

The topic of 'the news' definitely needs bumping-up!

Annoyed by the news is an understatement; yet what keeps us coming back to the monitor the news??

Personally, I largely avoid sensationalist, and fake news. I mainly focus on quality news channels e.g., MSNBC, and periodically PBS.

I usually find-out about the latest news through Google News. I also make time to read news in print e.g., The "old fashioned" big-city newspaper e.g., The New York Times.

Lately, I've been told to take a "news detox." Yet, again, what keeps us coming back to even the quality news coverage every day??
