every once in a while, I become obsessed with one thing or another.

This month, it's bacon.

In the past, some obsessions include; piercings, tattoos, lightsabers, woodworking, marijuana, LSD/peyote/mescaline, cacti, Postal video game, the goth scene, and a lot of the time think I have something, look it up and find similar symptoms but not necessarily what I actually have.

Wondering if anyone else gets this and what they do to cope.

I have an obsession with shrimp, right now. It's almost all that I will eat at the moment. I'm just riding this one out.

Some of those obsessions are quite sombre, MJ. I seldom have short-term obsessions, but rather my obsessions last for several years.

I'm really enjoying mustard. Got to have mustard on everything. I'm saddened when I can't.

I have 5 main obsessions which I jump back and forth from throughout the day or weeks.

My passing obsessions are usually any movies I watch outside of my four most favorite ones (The Tim Burton movies Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, and Sweeney Todd). The passing obsessions rarely last longer than a week or two. The only movie that I thought was going to be a passing obsession but seems to be becoming one of my main obsessions is Terry Pratchett's Hogfather.

I am guessing that you admire Johnny Depp.

I decided to plot out the lifespan of one of my obsessions one day. My fairly lengthy fascination with the goings-on of a wonderfully androgynous MySpace stranger I stumbled upon by chance, began on October 27, 2007. That all-consuming passion suddenly petered out around December 2009, perhaps coinciding with the great MySpace-Facebook migration. Two years of my life, just like that.

In general I am fascinated by old things, creepy things and dead things. Maybe I should have studied archeology.

It is quite unusual for me to not have an obsession, but for some time now I have been without something to focus on and enjoy. I think it often has a lot to do with my financial status. When I feel I cannot afford an obsession, I tend not to have one. However, it feels like a very dull existence without one...sigh.
