Does anyone else experience the winter blues or S.A.D. (Seasonal Affectiveness Disorder)? I don't feel like I have S.A.D., but I probably do have some kind of winter blues :( . I don't feel depressed (maybe somewhat bluesy), but I do feel more anxious, especially in social situations. I'm also sleeping more & I feel much more tired & I don't really feel like socializing. I much rather just stay in my room & watch tv where it feels nice & cozy (it's way too cold to go out). I also feel like I'm eating more & I may have even gained some weight 8O . Winter has always been my least favorite season, the only thing that makes it better is Christmas, without Christmas winter would be unbearable. I don't really care for summer either, it's too hot, but it still at least better than winter. The seasons that I really love & fall (I  fall) & spring, that's when the temperature is just right. I was just wondering if this is normal or could there be something wrong with me?

Yes but mostly because you can't do anything because of the weather. It's not as bad here in Texas but it still gets really cold and you need a coat or at least a jacket sometimes. Christmas was always horrible for me because of the drastic changes in my routine and people coming in and out unnanounced.

I am much happier in the winter than I am in summer, I usually hate the heat. I prefer winter activities, like snowboarding, to summer ones, like swimming, although I do like going to the beach and stuff in the summer sometimes.

That might be part of my problem too. I love going outside & going for walks, but in the winter it's way too cold. I can't stand it. :x

I definitely have something of the sort, except Christmas just adds to it for me. Like you, I don't feel depressed, just more anxious, lethargic and inactive than usual. Of course, sometimes I wonder if I just don't realize I'm depressed, because people often seem to think that I am, even though I do not register any feelings of sadness. But then, they are probably judging me against NT standards. Who knows. I call it the winter blahs.

Sometimes I feel like that and I often feel like I have nothing better to do.

I loved winter when I was younger, but the more years pass, the more I dread it. The shorter the days get, the darker my mood becomes. Its as though there's no point in getting out of bed, because the day will be over before you can accomplish anything. Christmas actually makes it worse, people expecting things of me, wanting me to participate in empty social rituals and its always just a huge depressing disappointment, I can never wait for it to be over.

Anyway, what you describe is S.A.D. They say those 'natural light' bulbs will help, but i can't tell much difference. I do think it helps some to get outside during the day if the sun is out. I can physically feel a difference when I get out even for a few minutes, as opposed to being stuck indoors for days on end. Its the only thing that seems to make much difference at all.

There was a time in history, when it was natural to slow down to the rhythms of the seasons. People expected to feel slow, lethargic, and require more sleep, during the winter. In modern society, we feel something is wrong, because with all the technology and unnatural light, we feel wrong not to be energized in the winter, as much as we are during the longer days and shorter nights of summer.

I've had the winter blues in previous years through the month of January. I've found a way to embrace this particular month, and I don't really get them anymore.

Absolutely! I HATE winter because going outside sucks. It's so hard to play tennis when there is snow and ice on the court. Same with basketball, or walking the dog even. I hate layers, because not only do I sweat if I have too many on, but I leave my coat at people's houses, or in a building and never see it again. Sometimes, having the heat on is a bad thing.

The short daylight kinda bother me, although I never hesitate to go outside. I'm well equipped with water-proof, wind-proof, warm or cool coats of all sorts, boots of all sorts and snow pants. I go out for walks everyday no matter the weather. It really helps with my mood. We also go to indoor swimming pools regularly. Swimming is a winter activity for us, as we go outdoors in summer. If you can keep yourself active and your mind entertained, winter is not any worse than other seasons. Think about all the great movies you can watch now there's so much darkness and no glares on your screen. :)
