Tough Guy Sheriff Fired for Brutal Arrest of Special Needs Student.

A Sarasota Sheriff's deputy was fired after he aggressively threw a special-needs student onto a school bus seat and threatened to shock her with a Taser during a videotaped confrontation on the bus.

The deputy, Mark Perrin, was fired Wednesday after an internal investigation spurred by a videotape that shows him snatching a 17-year-old girl from her seat and flinging her across an aisle while More..others on the bus looked on in shock. Perrin also used profanity during the episode, authorities said.

The situation began when an aide on the bus called 911 to say that the student threw a plastic bottle, punched her in the stomach and kicked her wrist.

The bus, from Sarasota High School, pulled over at Cattlemen Road and Cattleridge Boulevard about 3 p.m. on Dec. 15.

Authorities say that Sarasota County firefighters were the first to arrive, and that the aide and driver remained on the bus as the girl refused to get out of her seat.

When Perrin shows up, he sees the teenager in her seat a few rows back. He asks, "What's your problem, girl?"

The teenager, who has not been named in reports, is told to stand up, but refuses.

"I'll snatch your ass out of that seat," the deputy says.

He then grabs the teenager by her sweatshirt and violently throws her across the aisle and face down into another seat. The deputy climbs on top of the teenager's back and struggles to restrain her.

"Put both hands behind your back before I Tase you," he says.

The girl can be heard screaming while others on the bus back away. She later told internal affairs investigators that she could hear her sweat shirt ripping and that she was surprised the deputy grabbed her out of the seat.

How sad. What a coward of a policeman to do that to a person who couldn't stand up for herself.

If I was the parent of that kid I would sue the bus driver, the school district, bus aide, the fire department, each firefighter that stood by and did not even say something, the police department, and the cop. I would fill their lives with lawyers and letigation until their heads pop off.

And the onlookers said nothing, part of the pack, glad this was caught on video, imagine how many things don't.

"She's going to jail."
"Okay. That's fine."

No, it doesn't seem like anybody there was exactly shocked. Or concerned at all.

Some experts say it was so easy to round up Jews in Nazi Germany because no one said a thing as the SS rounded them up in the street. If they started rounding up autistics this is the same reaction we would get when they drag us away.

There was something James Michener said, regarding the atrocities against Hungarians leading up to and during the '56 revolution - about how we in America would find our own torturers and secret police, etc very easily if we wanted to. We have any number of people only needing the permission and opportunity to commit brutality. Things like this video alway sbring that to mind. :S

It doesn't matter what special needs she has. It matters that the cops attacked her, when it appears that she didn't do anything wrong.

A few years ago, while pondering the things that have made me believe the things I do, I remembered a book titled "The anatomy of human destructiveness" by Erich Fromm. I read that when I was about 21 ( more than 30 years ago) and in retrospect I know it changed the way forever that I look at accountability, human behavior, and morals.
Excellent information regarding inaction by many that allows the atrocities to occur. Be careful though, if you read it, it might just change your life.
This "officer" in this video used excessive force when the situation did not call for it, and had one of the firefighters said "whoa, buddy, don't hurt her" it might have made a difference. Glad she wasn't injured, a bus is no place to be tossed around. I would bet money this jerk would never treat a man the same size as himself that way, only those smaller and weaker. Jerk of the week!

It would be nice to know the circumstances *preceding* that "situation" ...

Perhaps I am ret*d but the girl is violent (physically assults the bus driver), mouthy and uncoperative to the authourities. What exactly are they supposed to do? I say she got what she deserved.

We only know she threw a plastic bottle, and we do not know why or whether it had anything in it or was thrown at anyone. However, it appears the aid on the bus then approached the girl and the girl apparently defended herself against that advance ... and that the cop ultimately got what *he* deserved for roughing her up as he did.

Pull her to her feet, sure, but throw her across the aisle? Handcuff her? Threaten to tase her? She wasn't coming, but she wasn't actively fighting the officer either - were his actions necessary at that stage?

At any rate, he was fired. Not put on administrative leave, but fired. Seems like his superiors, who have a better grasp of the procedure to follow than we armchair types, also think he went too far.

The cop should not have thrown her down like that. The we do not know what that bus driver did to set her off. All I know is there will be a lot of people loosing all they have worked for due to their stupitity and mishandling of the situation. I hope their lives are ruined for it. What did the bus driver or the other students do to set the girl into a meltdown that started the situation on its course of destruction.

The cop said:

He went in with a bad attitude and with ignorance he made the situation worse. He deserves what lawsuits may come.

They said he threw the girl so hard he ripped sweatshirt and he left bruises on her body. No telling what he was doing behind the seat where we could not see him.

These people are mentally insane. Power-hungry schmucks with a uniform... they're essentially state-sanctioned terrorists.
