I'm not sure how else to describe it. Sometimes I see, in the air, tiny little specks that are whizzing around really, really fast in many directions, but always in straight lines. No curves or spirals. It's not dust floating in the air. They are tiny, tiny sparkles, kind of. They move kind of like billard balls, but they are a huge number of them, and they go so fast that it's kind of a shimmer.

I am most likely to see it if I'm looking towards a textured surface, like a carpet with variegated colors, or my 1970's textured ceiling. I have to focus my eyes in front of the surface There does not have to be direct sunlight, but I don't see it in the dark, so I don't think it's just my imagination.

I've told a few people, in the past, that I see this, but the response is always something like, "Okaaaayyyyy....I want some of whatever you're smoking!"

Could I actually be seeing some kind of particles in the air? Air molecules would be far too small to see, wouldn't they? These little buggers are FAST! I don't see it all the time, and sometimes if I look for it, I can't see it. But often I can. And when I do, I like to stare at it and watch it for a while.

Anyone else ever seen anything like that, or know what I mean?

Does it look like any of these?

Sometimes can get these without the headache.
In that case these are called "visual migraine."

Looking around, my vision seems pixelated, like on an old SDTV. Not all of the time, but the air seems to be composed of pixels. I haven't mentioned this to anyone outside of my ex-wife. I don't get migraines.

I would guess you are most likely seeing dust or dirt blowing through the air or something. People can not see molecules with the naked eye.

Check your pulse the next time you see them and see if they correlate. They could be blood cells moving through your capillaries. :)

Most probably then, you are seeing actual air particles..

The little things move much, much more quickly than anything else I've ever seen moving. When you see dust in the air, in a shaft of sunlight, it just meanders around a bit, unless you blow on it. This moves much more quickly. It's kind of like if you take your cursor and move it back and forth all over your screen as fast as you can...and imagine that your cursor is about a pixel in size They are reflective, so sometime you see them and sometimes you don't, so it's a barely-there shimmer.

Often times when people look at a textured surface, or straight into the sky, they will see an optical illusion that may make it seem like there are tiny, nearly transparent specs zipping around in your field of view. I get this too. You aren't seeing the air, it's only your eyes playing tricks on you

I have no idea then, I cannot relate.

Hmm, interesting. I guess that makes sense. So much for me being a super-cool person who can see air. I'll have to find another talent, I guess.

My vision is pixelated. However, I attribute that to HPPD, not AS

Holy s**t! I never thought I would find someone talking about this online or in real life. I first noticed it when I was in fourth grade. I used to see them a lot in the school yard at recess. Mostly I remember seeing them on a sunny day while looking at a clear blue sky, but maybe I could've seen them on rainy days too. During late elementary school I was fascinated by it. I used to think they looked like oversized atoms and molecules just like the OP said. As I got older I didn't think about them as much but I would still see it from time to time.

I never told anyone because I didn't feel like I had to. Besides they wouldn't understand anyway. It's so awesome to finally see someone talking about it!

Yes, I get this a bit too. (Very tiny pixels, and sort of multicolored in the shadows especially.)

I would think that the little whizzing things you see, Wanda, are probably just some sort of illusion or malfunction, not an actual thing. (At least not a thing in the world around you, but perhaps electricity traveling inside your eye? MAYBE.) Like when you squish your eyeballs and see sparkles and shapes, you know?

Eyes are so weird. I've been meaning to learn more about how they work and why they do all those weird little things, but I don't know if anyone's even really figured out how to research it. All I know is that they're sort of inefficiently evolved compared to some other animals' eyes.
