I noticed on a few sites lately that trolls are called autistic. Whenever a person starts posting the same stupid thing over & over & causes problems; they are called autistic. People post things in arguments like bane user for autism or I'm tired of the autistics ruining this site ect ect. Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this :?:

You could send a message to the moderator about it. I don't think that this type of language is allowed on boards in general, is it? Have you tried this?

autistic is the new ret*d. i dont think anyone was ever successful getting the general population to stop using the word ret*d as a derogatory term. autistic has joined the ranks of ret*d, homo, fag, etc.

hmmm its almost an ironic form of widespread acceptance, altho done by the ignorant.

It was probably used as an insult at the time, just like the way someone would call another a "ret*d", but the insulted is not mentally ret*d.
I heard someone at school call someone autistic before because he got in trouble in class a lot, or something like that.

Just don't go to the sites that upset you.

I don't know if it's new, I've heard it going back to 2003-2004 at least? Although it wasn't that frequent, I guess.

I'm not a member on any of those sites. I've been stumbling across that stuff while looking up other stuff. I've seen some mod post saying something like "user was banned for autism". If I were to try sending or posting messages in those discussions; I might look like a troll myself & that would only make things worse. I'm trying to ignore it but it's hard for me not to say anything sometimes.

I'm afraid e your rite about that. I'm begging to wonder if some trolls have been mentioning autism or something & giving autism a bad rep perhaps :?

I have never noticed it either. Are you sure those aren't assumptions members are making? Are you sure they aren't playing the internet doctor?

Such trolls are just being immature/jealous/annoyed with the amount of attention or awareness that autism has been getting these days.

Unfortunately, there have been at least a few sites I've seen where trolls have blamed their bad behaviour on their 'aspergers'. This has led others to associate the two.

Frankly, I don't see why AS people would be more likely to be trolls; most internet posts are non-verbal.

I have heard of this, but I have not seen it (not saying it doesn't happen).

Something I have seen is AS people perceived as behaving provocatively (even trolling) by asking questions that are perceived as "obvious" and not immediately understanding the answers.

Yeah, it's possible for an autistic person (or a child, or someone who's very new to the subject, or someone who's ESL) to look like a troll when they actually aren't.

For example, at one point I went onto a D&D forum and innocently asked whether my paladin would logically be allowed to use drow sleeping poison to bring in a criminal*... and was immediately accused of trying to start an argument! Seems that I didn't realize that this particular forum had a really bad history of arguing about paladin morality, and it looked like I was deliberately starting another argument. Nowadays, I lurk for a while before I post new topics. It's highly advisable to try to figure out the tendencies of a forum before you jump in yourself.

*A paladin in 3rd edition D&D is a character class that is required to be honorable and good--think "knight in shining armor"--because he gets his power from his faith, either in his code or his deity, and loses that power if he breaks his code. Poison is considered in the rules-as-written to be dishonorable or evil or both, but many people disagree, and non-lethal poison has been shown to be a special case. Naturally this starts arguments about the nature of honor. Drow are evil subterranean elves and usually use the poison in question on tiny crossbows. And, in case you were wondering: Whether a paladin would use poison depends largely on the character, his personal code, and the setting you're RPing in.

I've been mistaken as a troll before. Maybe because of my aspieness or I didn't understand the social rules of the place or I was too naive. Who knows. Plus it's also my opinions people don't like because they are different than the rest. I have seen people being called trolls for their point of views or opinions after they express it. Even I have gotten this same crap from other aspies.
