Does anyone here find that certain types of food makes your mental well being lesser in quality then others? Such as moods, general mental state well being and or otherwise cogently and cognitively?

yes, i avoid grains containing gluten, as i find they are detrimental to my mental state, including increasing symptoms of AS, cloudiness of thought and exacerbation of depressive tendencies.
casein in dairy products has also been indicated to have a similar effect.

i am of the belief that diet affects mental well being to a great extent.

see this thread http://www.wrongplanet.net/asperger.htm ... ht=#251909 , about half way down the page and starting with jester69's post. hope this helps.

rpm2004:
i'm sure you could, it might take a bit of getting used to though. it depends on what your diet is like now. i don't really eat a lot of rice bread and suchlike, many of them are not too great. although there is one brand of rice bread i can buy here that is really good.
i don't buy any of the specialised gluten free food products, many of them are highly processed and full of chemicals also, and overpriced. i just avoid eating any food with gluten in it.

donkey:
i have the same thing with beer, its been the hardest thing for me to give up though.

Items of food containing vitamin B6 and B12. My vitamin B-tablets helps my depression.

Diet-soda makes me angry for some reason.

How interesting. I went on a refined sugar and grain-free diet for health reasons years ago, and found that it made me mentally clearer as well.

i really do think that diet does make us apsies prone to odd behaviour and more so than nt's, i know there are books on this but i have found from personal experience that changes in diet are reflected in my behaviour..trying to cut out dairy and sugar at the moment gave up the 30 a day habit of smoking 2 years ago. and stopped pepsi over nigth...do feel better and am going to try organic foods and see what diff if any they make

I eat what I can tollerate putting in my mouth, and since that limits things so much already I'm not sure how it influences my mental health....

I couldn't really go gluten-free because I'm pesca-vegetarian (only meat I eat is fish) and that would limit my choices of food even further...I however cannot stand artificial sweeteners like nutra-sweet or equal, or anything with aspertame for that matter - it makes me really sick. As for other foods, I'm really sensitive to really rich or sweet foods, but I'm not sure if that affects my mental clarity...
