I really stuggle to cope with the noise crowd and chaos of shopping centres.

Does any one else have this problem.

I hate them for a different reason. It's hard for me to find clothes in my size that I would actually wear and the selection of music in the CD store isn't wide enough. They don't have the music of half of the people that I listen to.

I can't stand them. Too much noise. To much activity,

Not enough money.

Yup, even more when I am tired. My hearing isn't that great anymore (due to sickness) so that helps a little compared to previous years.

Sounds get into one big mash, hard to have conversations.

Yes, they are difficult, especially if there are fluorescent lights all around. Two shopping centers here are open air so when you go into the center part, where you walk from store to store, you're outside in the sunshine and there are lawns and gardens and fountains and statues....they're actually pretty nice. Those I don't mind. It's the old fashioned kinds with the roof that make me feel like I'm going to suffocate.

quite the opposite with me. every time I go to the mall I spend at least 3 hours there if time allows.

They are one of the worst places on this planet. They are getting much to big these days. I get very angry easily in shopping centres. Far too many people crammed into one place doing something completely mindless all day long! I really cannot understand what people get out of all day shopping trips. I hate shopping anyway because I am never sure what to buy.

Aspieallien,

YES! You described me to almost a T. I used to have horrible anxiety attacks when I was in a mall (on medication now and practice avoidance). The harsh lighting, noise, crowds and people bumping into me. It is often to much to cope with, hence the anxiety attack. If I have to go to a mall, I do it early in the morning when no one is there, but thanks to Amazon.com, I don't need to go there often.

Thank for bringing up this topic.

I try to avoid going to shopping centres, only going to them if it is necessary. Too crowded, noisy and boring. I don't understand why shopping is considered such a popular leisure activity. Best depiction of the public in a shopping mall is the film Dawn of the Dead.

I like shopping centres, the more shops and bigger it is the better.

Someplace like Wallmart... no thank you. Especially with my kids--stimmy heaven.

Any bookstore however, I love--the bigger the better.

I hate them very much, except for the one in Gunwharf that has the Spinaker Tower, if you've ever heard of it. I hate it because it's busy, but it has some cool stuff like a cinema and games shops

YES!

The atmosphere in a bookstore just seems different. Plus there is SOOO much interesting stuff in them.

I hate the mall but I dislike wallmart-like stores as well.

If I have to go to the mall I go first thing in the morning. I usually only go when I need new shoes. I prefer not to be around all the people. For whatever reason I can get agitated.

I don't like the chain bookstores like Barnes and Nobles, chiefly because I find the music so distracting I can't concentrate on anything and then there are announcements over the loud speaker and things like that and it gets overwhelming. I don't like the size or the lighting either. But independent book stores and especially used book stores, I love those.

Shopping centers ... I don't go. Can't handle them, especially if I'm by myself. I just buy the stuff I need online.
