The only things I have in common with you are that I too am a global warming skeptic, and I dislike alcohol and loud environments. I knew we weren't going to have much in common once I read that you don't own a TV and you only watch movies once a year, because movies are my special interest.

Ahh, so you're an NT. That explains a lot.

I don't understand people that pride themselves in being technologically impaired.

I'll keep the ones that I display (some with comments):

1. Reading research articles about autism and global warming (I am a skeptic.), and teaching methods.
Of course, I love reading scientific articles. There's no reason to be a skeptic of global warming though.
5. Ubuntu is my preferred operating system.
It would be for me, if I didn't rely on Windows for playing many games (and WINE doesn't cut it for these), which I'm not going to give up. :P
7. I study Spanish during my spare time.
Not Spanish, but linguistics and learning languages is my special interest and obsession.
9. I do not use Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter.
12. I am a neat freak.
17. I love to teach.
Sort of, I enjoy teaching people things, but I'm not very good at it.
25. I dislike alcohol and bars.
Hate them, passionately.
26. I dislike loud environments.

I voted not close at all, since a majority of your list I don't display.

I'm not skeptic of global warming but I uhh...don't care. I also have to remind myself to stay up-to-date with the news.

My special interests are much more narrow and short lived. Sometimes I go back to the same ones but these days I never stay with one for more than a few months. My interests are really intense. I can only put focus in one thing at a time and I tend it get a bit too obsessive about them.

I will list my favorites in no particular order.
1. Reading research articles about autism I prefer to read articles written by autistics in layman's terms and global warming (I am a skeptic.), so am I, in the sense that I think the climate changing and being affected by the organisms that live in it is nothing new and teaching methods. interesting, but I haven't done much reading on this
2. I subscribe to TIME, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, and National Geographic. We appear to share no taste in magazines. I get the annoy-your-friends subscription to Marie Claire, Psychology Today and Watchtower, and I buy Women's World sometimes, but honestly I don't like magazines that much at all.
3. I do not own a television, a cell phone, or a stereo. I rarely watch TV, so when I move out I doubt I'll buy one. I hate cell phones but it was a gift.
4. I am switching back to dial up. Why on Earth would anyone do that?? Are you switching back to writing with a quill and conducting all your wars with clubs, too?
5. Ubuntu is my preferred operating system. You win. I'm not smart enough about computers to understand that.
6. I have a math minor at university and still study math on my own to this day. My dad loves math, but I can't wrap my brain around it.
7. I study Spanish during my spare time. I prefer Japanese.
8. I watch a movie about once a year. That often, huh?
9. I do not Facebook, My Space, or Twitter. Overrated, all of them... says she who's never tried.
10. I love reading about clocks and watches. I built a wood gear clock from a kit. Sounds interesting, but I've never learned anything about that myself.
11. I hate yard work. However, my yard looks great because I take care of the yard to blow off steam. I like gardening, but I'm not sure what "yard work" is.
12. I am a neat freak. I'm not.
13. I love to joke around with fellow teachers at work. Jokes are fun. Anything done "with fellow [type of person] at [place with lots of people]" is not fun.
14. I draw beautifully. Some people think I draw well. I'm not going to be in any art history textbooks a century from now, though, nor do I think I'm likely to ever make money off this.
15. I play the piano poorly. I started lessons at age 42. I will get better. I have a lot of talent with the piano, but since I'm really lazy about practicing, I sound nice but I've never gotten really good.
16. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in graduate school because my teachers said I worked to hard.
17. I love to teach.
18. I had a big indoor garden when I was younger. (Growing plants is cheap.) Outdoors for me.
19. I took care of my Mom's entire garden when she was pregnant. Impressive, gardening before you were even born! It was about a quarter acre. Then you have me beat. I loved doing it at the time.
20. I like looking at other people's model train sets. I might get involved with G-scale Trains. (Garden Scale Trains.) Meh. I won't diss it or anything, but I have absolutely no interest.
21. I have built countless crystal radios. I don't know what those are.
22. Listened to numerous shortwave stations when I was younger.
23. I love reading and playing with my kids!
24. I love looking at photographs and painting of people at all skill levels.
25. I dislike alcohol and bars. I suppose you also dislike getting teeth drilled sans novocaine, eh?
26. I dislike loud environments. Me too.

About the global warming thing:

I have a minor special interest with the environment, but it's related to one of my other special interests as well. One of special interests is a band and one of the guys in the band is really into the environment and all that, like REALLY into it, so that's probably part of the reason why it's an interest of mine.

Huh.

It's good to be skeptical of any research one reads, but the evidence in favor of climate change is pretty significant, and the scientific community largely considers it not controversial. The primary controversy comes from political agendas, not scientific research.

OK, I'll quote from your list what I share in interests.

9. I do not Facebook, My Space, or Twitter.
14. I draw beautifully.
25. I dislike alcohol and bars.

I guess that's not much in common then.

I think you should be very happy that you're a "special" NT. You sound busy working hard and accomplishing all sorts of stuff. I won't mind being friends with you in real life. We can paint together and drink water. :D You can take care my yard, too. I'll do something for you in exchange. I'm sure there are things you don't like that I do. I love doing laundry, how about that? :D

- I like reading articles, discussions and such about autism spectrum disorders.
- I studied Spanish in college, along with a few other languages.
- I don't do Facebook, My Space or Twitter either.
- I hate yard work too and only do it if strictly necessary.
- I play the piano too and am rather good at it. I had piano lessons for years when I was a kid/teenager. I don't play it that much anymore though, and the only reason why I got into playing the piano was because I was on a waiting list for learning to play the flute, which was my favorite instrument, and it was recommended that I learn the piano in the meantime. Somehow my name seems to have been wiped off the waiting list though, because my turn never came for the flute. I would love to make that old dream come true one day and learn to play the flute.
- I dislike alcohol and bars too. I don't drink and I don't like hanging out with drunk people.
- I dislike most loud environments.

Those are the only ones we seem to have in common.

Going down your list, and comparing it to me....

1. Reading research articles about autism and global warming (I am a skeptic.), and teaching methods.

Among other things

2. I subscribe to TIME, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, and National Geographic.

I used to subscribe to popular electronics, and get popular science if I see somethoing interesting.

3. I do not own a television, a cell phone, or a stereo.

I once went 2 years without TV. I would love to. I don't really use my stereo.

4. I am switching back to dial up.

Well, I like high bandwidth.

5. Ubuntu is my preferred operating system.

I prefer ALL versions of Linux.

6. I have a math minor at university and still study math on my own to this day.

Don't I wish. My FATHER did.

7. I study Spanish during my spare time.

Among others

8. I watch a movie about once a year.

If I had no TV, I don't even know if I would do it that often.

9. I do not Facebook, My Space, or Twitter.

Same here.

10. I love reading about clocks and watches. I built a wood gear clock from a kit.

Wow, another hit.

11. I hate yard work. However, my yard looks great because I take care of the yard to blow off steam.

Would be the same here but, not being there, I pay someone to do it.

12. I am a neat freak.

I USED to be! My mother got rid of that. STILL, if I get nervous, I clean.

13. I love to joke around with fellow teachers at work.

If I knew any teachers, I might do the same. Heck, I used to kind of stay with "teachers" since I wasn't sociable.

14. I draw beautifully

I can do ok, if need be.
.
15. I play the piano poorly. I started lessons at age 42. I will get better.

I started lessons around 14, but don't feel it is worth my time to continue.

16. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in graduate school because my teachers said I worked to hard.

I lost interest due to "teaching".

17. I love to teach.

Same here. It isn't REALLY my job.

18. I had a big indoor garden when I was younger. (Growing plants is cheap.)

I had a little outdoor one.

19. I took care of my Mom's entire garden when she was pregnant. It was about a quarter acre. I loved doing it at the time.

Well, I tended a couple gardens of my own.

20. I like looking at other people's model train sets. I might get involved with G-scale Trains. (Garden Scale Trains.)

NOPE.

21. I have built countless crystal radios.

I built maybe 5.

22. Listened to numerous shortwave stations when I was younger.

YEP

23. I love reading and playing with my kids!

I have no kiids, but I would if I did.

24. I love looking at photographs and painting of people at all skill levels.

NOPE

25. I dislike alcohol and bars.

YEP

26. I dislike loud environments.

YEP

I have hardly anything in common with you, but if I may ask, why the hell are you switching back to dial up?
