the other day i was listening to my parents speaking in another room, it suddenly struck me that even though the volume was high enough everything sounded garbled, when i concentrated it became apparent that the sound simply sounded muttled and my brain interpreted this as garbled.

since then i have noticed that cetain audio conditions produce similar effects, an audio player playing music out of a window if the window isnt fully open and other things like that, places where the sound is forced to use an awkward path to the listener.

does this make any sense or am i simply imagining things?

Nope, this happens to me all the time. The scariest is when someone is speaking directly at me but it still comes to me as gibberish. I know they are saying something, but my brain is not interpreting it right.

Ditto! Sometimes words come to me as a foreign language; an unknown foreign language. Sound can also come to me distorted, or as if it were coming from somewhere different than it actually is.
