It's still relatively new to me, so I'm just thinking about getting diagnosed for the moment.

My question is, for people who are diagnosed with aspergers, how did it happen? What did they ask? How did they reach a conclusion? Also, did they require to see your parents and what did they ask them? Did you have to open up to your parents about things you previously didn't want to tell them? And how emotional was it?

Thanks muchly. :D

hello Frankie J- welcome to this thing of ours :)
long aspergers evaulation description webpage
the above clickable link is informative, and pertinent to your query.
my own evaluation had, aside from the cognitive/psychological testing, a physical part as well, in that i was tasked to move in different ways and postures, and my gait and reflexes were analyzed.

Thanks for the link!

You had to do physical tests? Oh god. I'd refuse to do that. What things did they make you do?

it was not objectionable, you likely have had physical exams earlier in your life where similar movement performance evaluations were performed on you. i'm not a medic so i can't give you anything precisely diagnostic in terms of criteria, i can just tell you what they did to me. they just did the usual phys. exam things, like checking my reflexes and my movements. i am not exactly clear on what was specifically to discern AS and what was just ordinary phys. exam, they never really explained it to me in sufficient detail to suit me. they took notice of my speech and language usage. my awkward and sloppy handwriting was noted. my balance was noted- they saw i had trouble moving or standing still with my eyes closed. they noted my inability to multitask, IOW doing two separate things with two separate limbs simultaneously, without either limb action influencing the action of the other limb- the "walking, talking and chewing gum test" is what i gathered that to be, and i failed. my reflexes were noted to be below-par, both in alacrity and precision. they noted my odd muscle tone [loose and rigid in unusual places], floppy joints and overall clumsiness. they correctly deduced that i am accident-prone, and lousy at sports. this was the extent of the physical evaluations performed on me.
i hope this is useful for you.
