Anyone imagine dance steps/dance sequences but cannot do them? Experiences? Insights?

I often imagine complex dances when listening to music, or picture music videos in my head that i can never translate to reality. More so then dance, i picture playing an instrument or singing passionately and think about how awesome that must be. I don't think there is anything unusual about this. Of course, there are certain people with specific talent in these areas, but anyone can practice and learn. I believe confidence plays a very strong role, surely anyone who is good at dancing is not worried about appearing ridiculous. Personally, i am, so i avoid it, but i not discouraging trying!

I like to imagine all the fancy dance moves from the past 55 years that evolved with rock n roll and pop music and how complex they are.

Yes. I wish I could dance, but I just look stupid. In my head I look cool.

Mentally, dancing is my forte. When I come to physically acting it out, the outcome is very different resulting in me looking like a total dork.

i once saw a movie with fred astaire and i was mesmerized. he seems to have a genius level familiarity with his nervous system.
he looked to be in his mid 40's and yet his body was so freshly responsive to his slightest whim that was exceptionally musically accurate.

his imagination was translated to movement without any effort.

i know michael jackson could dance, but i see fred astaire as totally free in his lightness and effortless control.

here is an example

and another

to be as light as he and without the cumbersome reality of mortal momentum would be akin to being able to fly.

what a man, but like all men, he grew old and died.

I'm the opposite: Dance but cannot imagine what I'm doing. I don't care whether it looks stupid either. It's my body's response to music. Either the stuff traditionally called music, or the music of my environment. I don't do dance "steps" generally though because it's rather dangerous for me to walk on my feet let alone dance in them.

last time i tried to dance, three of my tracks came off their rollers, and my fourth seized up, so i hit the ground and smashed my bubble.

I dance corresponding to the music and exactly how I hear the music in my head. You have probably never seen anybody dance like that before

Beautiful, I love tap dancing, wish I could do it.

I never got dancing. I really like things like ballet and tap dancing, but I'm too inflexible to do ballet and my limbs never worked quickly enough to tap dance. I never understood the whole "move your body to the music" thing. When I was younger I used to try to dance like my friends when we went to concerts and clubs, but I just ended up looking like an idiot. At least with tap and ballet the dances are all choreographed and you know exactly what's expected of you, but with the freestyle stuff it's just so confusing.

I'm a musician (music was a childhood obsession), and I've mustered the coordination to play the piano and the guitar at quite an advanced level... But I will NEVER be able to dance! I can't even repeat someone else showing me step by step.
