If you've perused this site a little bit, you've probably heard the expression: "If you've met one ASDer, you've met one ASDer" (or, some variation, of that saying)..... My question is: What thing ("symptom" / "quirk" / whatever) do you think is something that is true of almost ALL (90 to 100 percent) ASDers?

One of the things I'm thinking is common to almost all ASDers, is that they want TRUTH----whether that means they don't want people lying to them, or that they seek the truth, at almost ALL cost (as in exhaustive research).

I would say at least 90% of autistic people stim to some extent.

At least 90% of people on the Spectrum experience some awkwardness within the social realm. They tend to be able to socialize better "in retrospect" than in "real time."

My vote is for honesty. We can be so blunt sometimes that it makes people run to the hills.

Actually, I have two, that is, I also cast my vote for rigidity. Getting us to change our mind about something (food, clothes, behaviours, special interests, etc) is like trying to move a mountain spoon by spoon.

I've read academic articles which cite special/obsessive interests as being prevalent in 90-100% of the autism population.

Thanks, everybody, for responding!!

I forgot about that other element of "truth"----our bluntness; that's DEFINITELY, IMO, 90 to 100 percent.

My vote goes to social communication issues.

I think logic is another one that's a big deal with most of us.

Difficulty getting along in the NT world. You have autistics that can do it well but it is still difficult.

The urge to monologue. Repressed in most, but uninhibited in others.

This is funny. Today I was looking up websites on "stage presence" and "how to be an actor" tips and was reading advice about how you should enjoy performing monologues at auditions ... And I was thinking ... well yeah, I love that sort of thing. Who wouldn't? :)

i second logic, social communication issues, stimming and anything else along those veins.

yeh, sounds realistic. i really believe it's something not limited to ASDers, either.

being understood. not only 90 to 100% of SDers, but a high percent of people as a whole.

Just a thought of myself, but i feel totally alien in this world in my own bubble in the corner observing humanity, i see people like as if i have been flung here from the far corner of the universe.. Enclosed in my own bubble, reaching out but can never quite connect.. Almost as if the people around me are alien themselves. ( may sound a little cliche, but this is how i have explained it most of my life long before i knew about AS )
