Hello,

I need to know if it's a Asperger symptom, or what is this ?

I had a lot of trouble with my left and my right (english and french).

Exemple: if you ask me to turn left, I had to think where is left, or if I explain to somebody
and I have to say if it's at left or right, I had to think, it's not spontaneous.

When I was young I found a trick, I look at my watch, my watch was always in my left arm,
watch = left ... but I forgot that trick and don't use it anymore.

If you ask me if I'm left or right hand, I had to look at my hand, ask myself where is right and left and after a few seconds I can answer that I'm right hand (lol)

Even if I'm very relax, not stressed or not anxious, it's not more easier to know where is left or right.

Bye !

I don't know if this is due to AS or anything, but I have had some trouble with that when I was younger. I rarely have trouble with it anymore, since when someone talks about what is left and right, well ... I know I'm right handed, so I know where my right arm is, and that is right and the opposite is left.

It's similar with directions. I know the compass placements, so I know north is up, east is right, west is left, and south is down. If you have something to visualize, it makes it much easier.

I took algebra quite a few years ago. I remember there was this one test where there was a lot of use of greater than (>) and less than (<) signs. I remember getting all of these signs reversed on a test and getting almost all of the answers wrong. I had talked to the professor and took the test again, but these sorts of things can be confusing.

i still have trouble with it... i remember where left and right are because i remember where the L and R buttons are on many game controllers. The L button is usually on the left and the R on the right... I think it was planned that way.

a gud way to learn is by holding your arms out with the palm facing down and the hand which you can make a correct L using only the thumb and the finger next to it. anyway how old r u.

I used to have this problem then I too found the watch trick then over time I became less prehensile and more right handed and then I just understood :) Even today when I give directions I have to make the movements with my hands to remember which way to go.

I have read some where, Long ago that the reason some people have a hard time telling left from right is because unlike most people they use both sides of there brain equally.

I still have to look at my hands to determine left and right.

I used to have a hard time with it in elementary school until I was taught about holding my hand out and see which one makes an "L." Now I'm fine with it.
I also was ambidextrous. I had no trouble writing with both hands. The school made me choose one so now I'm right handed.

I still have to look at my hands when giving directions even if I'm talking to someone on the phone. It's no big deal I relise that I'v said the wrong direction and correct myself. I think it has to do with the speed of though verus the speed of speech.

Me too, i've always confused left and right. I'll say left when i mean right or vice versa. I alway had hard time remembering numbers like phone numbers and addresses. Thinks other people knew off the top of their head.

Same here. I've had trouble with left and right all my life. In highschool I used to draw a dot on my right hand so that I would know left and right immediately when I'd look at my hands.

I still look at my hands to know what is left or right and most of the time it's not enough to just look. I have to remind myself that the hand I write with is my right hand. Sometimes I have to move the hand I write with to know that that side is the right side. I'm used to it. Not a problem. Just a little slower than most others, that's all.

It is annoying when I'm driving a car and I can't figure out left and right fast enough though.

Same problem here. Almost like not having an internal compass.

Just be glad you're not into boating and have to learn port and starboard as well.

Lots of people, not just aspies have trouble with left and right. It is something you have to think about unless you practice a lot. I find when I'm on a sporting field yelling directions to my fellow players, I'll yell something like "Fred, three steps left - No, your OTHER left", that way it doesn't matter which of us gets it wrong, we get the move we want in the end. I don't know who came up with "no, your other left (or right)" first but it was a line in the first Matrix movie too. I think I'd been using it before that though.
