Just want to mention to those of you with those of you with those nice animated avatars that I can't read very well on my computer when there's something moving in the picture. If it flashes, forget it, I just skip it altogether.

Thats funny I thought I just had to make my own fancy animated avatar to
show off. I never did it but I was going to generate a "WrongPanet" in 3-d spinning that would explode into another image. (using povray and animated gif software).

lol, funny I'd see a post about this now - I just finished this one a second ago. What your looking for is a gif animation program. You usually get something similar to a powerpoint layout, all you have to do is make sure everything's sized right and lined up right (a photo editor like Infranview is good for that kind of thing).

You can turn off GIF animation.

Like I mentioned before, I chose Opera because it's easy to customize. But it's possible with IE too, by going to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced (under Multimedia).

I know what you mean. I guess we can't be fussy about these things, an avatar is a personal thing. I usually look at the animation first, I actually like a lot of them then I read the text, trying to block the avatar out.

When they are very distracting, I just hold a piece of paper up to the screen to block the left side, where the avatars are.

Think of it as practice for the real world. You need control over your attention span and it's sink or swim no excuses - I'm guessing you'd rather swim.

So, what do you do about this damn thing? Short of uninstalling Macromedia browser plugins, that is? It makes me nucking futs and I want to back away and crawl up the wall butt first. I've resized my screen res to control it better, but I hate using a small 'window', too.
