Executive funct. issues and achieving goals
Looking in these forums, I read that a lot of people with aspergers and autism struggle with making plans and executing things as I do. I want to know what other guys here are doing to overcome or compensate for their planning and executive functioning issues, and what you can suggest for me. It's of interest that I learn about it, because I have ideas about things that I want to achieve. Sad thing about my life is that the entire time I never had something that I was able to really "keep" up with and become very good at, and not really anything to show for others. I'm also worried that things I wanted to learn or achieve before or now, it may be too late to get very good at any of them.
My history is when I graduated from school 7 years ago, I fell into probably my biggest slump without attending any post-high school classes until I started a 2y certificate program with different courses several months ago. I was never involved in any "real" employment position in my life (late bloomer?), and I damn hope that it wouldn't be too late to get into compensated work in the next 12 months because I am now 26 today. My life slump also landed me into a depressed numb state where I went outside of my house extremely rarely, and most just for other family, not any actual "friends" time.
I just wish I only had the neurological part of drive that would help with executive functioning, or to compensate with it by something else.
I use an Amazon Echo "Dot" device. It reminds me when to do things like take my medication, it interfaces with my Google Calendar, and it has a "to do" list, with the ability to create other specialized lists as needed. It's timer function could help me manage time allocated to things like Internet usage (gotta work on that one). Also it can play ambient noise (I'm partial to 'rain sounds') or wordless music (I'm partial to 'Liquid Mind') when I'm starting to feel a bit overstimulated by neighborhood noise.
I also tend to carry around a pen & pocket notebook.
