You know, the "What are you, an alien?" look.

Somehow the conversation had at lunch got to be about how the date of Easter is set every year and that it has to do with the spring equinox. So somebody said that 'the equinox doesn't follow Easter around' I quipped "the anthropomorphic interpretation of quantum mechanics would allow that"

Silence.

"The Look".

God. I am such a freak.

If that makes you a freak, then you *must* come over and sit next to me.

But you are a SMART freak! That 'look' is people feeling stupid because they have no idea what you just said but know that it is probably scientifically quippy... You used big words and hard science in one sentence. Most people glaze over at that!

I would have given you the confused look(not the "are you an alien look"). I just don't get it. What's the link between quantum mechanics and easter...?

The link is because they said that the equinox determines the date of Easter. So Easter follows the equinox around the calendar. When the person said the equinox doesn't follow Easter around, I thought that the anthropic interpretation of quantum mechanics says the universe is the way it is because our observations cause it to be that way (very sloppy explanation, but close enough). So we could observe Easter to be a certain date and then Equinox would become what was needed to align with the observation. So the equinox COULD follow Easter around on the calendar.

When you said "The look" I assumed it was the look that the lonely housewife gives the muscular plumber in the cut off jeans right before...he leaves. We all know that look.

LOL - see I pictured a huge anthropomorphic rabbit (in tailcoat and top hat) looking at a pocket watch (whose dial was an astronomical calender) literally trying to following the equinox, double checking his position against the sun...

I get "the look" sometimes but it's usually not because I've said anything intelligent.
