Depending on the kind of noise, the proximity of the noise source, and the sensitivity of your hearing, earplugs are sometimes not strong enough to block out the noise completely or even sufficiently.

Do you have the ones that have to be rolled into a ball? They must be spread across the opening to your ear so that they cover it completely. If you used them correctly with unsatisfactory results, you may want to try using more than one tool at once, for example, earplugs and ear defenders simultaneously.

This is a good guide to earplugs
https://www.earplugsguide.com/

Generally silicone doesn't have as good noise reduction as foam. Look for the decibel rating for different types. Around 25 to 30db are the best. One of my family is a professional musician and has played in bands for years. He is very particular about ear protection. He has hearing loss due to his work and doesn't want to lose anymore.

These are new and sound pretty good. Sorry bad pun
