If I find it harder to function in society and holding down a job because of my AS will i have to live in a care home for the rest of my life?

My friends have virtually abandoned me as well.

No. There are places out there for low income people. There is social security and welfare, food stamps, and medicare.

Tell him he is wrong and there are those options for people.

Sounds like your dad is trying to scare you into acting "normal".

As long as you can take care of your personal needs, it is not inevitable. At your age SSI may be available, along with medicaid, housing, and assistance for food. Is there a possibility that your Dad may kick you out? I would hope not, many kids have to stay at home for long periods of time these days because of the job market.

If you ever have a reasonable expectation this might happen, I would move forward through the assistance process, it normally takes months to complete.

Jamesy, do you have a therapist that you can talk to? I HAVE to think that you need one much more than a bunch of internet people telling you how much your Dad sucks.

Just find yourself a niche career that can work with your 'special interests'. 'Jobs' are hard to hold down for people like us but if you have some skill that could be put towards a career you will be on the right track. I think aghogday mentioned getting some help with independence, that might be wise if you don't feel you can do it alone.

Even if it takes a few years, the end result will be well worth it. Just have patience and do your best to motivate yourself :)

It could have been, or he could have just been trying to illustrate what the alternative to living with parents, independence or actual homelessness is. Your dad, if hes a good guy, would obviously want you to have independence, so perhaps he just said it because he is concerned about you
