hi there,

i have read some things that people with autism have hand flapping, which is also called "stimming", but i never could remember that i had something like that. But, actually i just remembered that sometimes ... every 4-5 months or so, when i am very excited, then i oftenly have to run around in my room and move, or dance. Is this also stimming?

Furthermore, i also remember now that my parents told me that one of my favorite activities as a small child was to lie on my bed and to raise my legs and drop them on the bed again and again, so was this stimming?

thanks,
anton

Not sure, since I think NTs do those things too when they're very excited.

The thing with you laying on your bed may very well be stimming, though.

Yes, I consider running around to be stimming. I pace around my room or, if the weather permits, I go outside and run in circles.

I don't know, but I run around my room and throughout the house every day. But I'm easily entertained and can't control my excitement and like to move around. I get up from the computer very frequently just to jump, spin, run. Yes, I'm weird.

I wish i were like you. I'm rarely exited at all. Chronic boredom is a drag at times.

I pace around my room all the time, too. I also talk to myself, but only when there's no one else around. I like to walk around different places because I usually can't just sit down for an extended period of time.

But why do you have chronic boredom? There's so many things to take delight in; I can't fathom it. I do know, however, that boredom can correlate with intelligence.

sometimes when I can't sleep at night my spouse will wake up and find me lying in bed and stretching my arms out aove me, making circles with my wrists and such, and he'll have to remind me that it's time to sleep.

I'm not sure if stimming is defined as providing some sort of physical relief or if it's more mental relief (or if it's both). My reasoning for doing this arm stretching (and my elaborate whole-body stretches throughout the day) is that it makes my muscles feel better, just like any other person might stretch in the morning upon getting out of bed. any stimming eperts care to provide insight? :)

I honestly dont know. Things just dont appeal to me and even if i push myself to participate in stuff i rarely feel any satisfaction. Its not like i run around depressed or anything. Im content enough on a daily basis but the things i do are more time fillers that activities i actually enjoy. I think it has something to do with my low dopamine/Serotonine level. The only time i feel like im really enjoying myself is when im drugged up, which is something i have to watch out for.

I never run around my room, since there isn't enough space to anyways, but I have always paced alot. I have actually done the raising/dropping legs thing in bed too, but never really thought about it until reading your post. Besides pacing though my most common stim is twisting/pulling my hair.
