I communicate with people well and have no problem working in a team but I hate socialising. Only real job I've had so far was as a construction labourer. First contractor I worked for, we were a small crew (usually around 6 of us excluding the plumbers, painters, electricians and other specialists that were only around for a couple of months or so) and the contractor started me off working with a partner at first but I tended to just work by myself and when he saw that I didn't need a partner for the majority of what I did he let me work on my own on jobs that only required 1 pair of hands. The boss paid us for lunch time but that was the main part of the day I didn't like because at lunch we all sat around a table in 1 room and thats when everyone started socialising. I felt weird being the only 1 not talking so I'd force myself to get in on the conversations but I hate talking about mundane BS so it was a pain in the ass for me. Everyone in the crew were pretty cool but they were all pretty socially inclined and laid back when it came to working and they were always telling me to stop working so hard cuz for the whole day besides lunchtime I'd just work and talk about nothing but the job so they assumed I was overworking myself or something.

The 2nd job I had was 1000 times better, I was working with an unlicensed alcoholic contractor who was my ma's ex boyfriend. He exploited all his workers so he rarely had a crew of more than 4 people but more commonly it'd just be me and the contractor. This guy was angry all day and everything that went wrong, he'd blame on his workers. The other guys took this personally and hated him but I didn't give a crap but it was perfect for me cuz he didn't wanna talk to me during the day and the odd time he did talk to me, it was just to give me some s**t about something that went wrong so it was never anything I had to respond to. Once the clock stuck 5:00, work was over and he was a different man altogether, he'd change from your enemy to your best friend and insist you come to the bar and get drunk with him. He was dirt poor so it was harder work getting my pay off him every week than the actual weeks work but the lack of having to socialise with anyone for the workday completely outweighed any negatives 8)

They're the only jobs I've had, I'd say there are way better jobs for aspies than construction. Can you share your experiences with the jobs you've had.

I really enjoyed working at a quiet library. Same routine everyday. Worst thing about it was I would occasionally repeat a greeting someone just said involuntarily. I like the quiet setting and the routine and being able to surf the internet when not helping people find or check out books. Shelving books wasn't that bad either. Awesome job.

A job I'd really love to have is a night shift security guard. The kinda security guard thats paid to watch the video camera monitors.

That reminds me, I got a job stacking hay on a farm once. It wasn't that good at all cuz most of the time we were working as a team and in this job the work was actually hard. Had to keep up with the conveyor belt but once or twice the farmer put me to work on my own stacking hay in the barn without any conveyor belt to keep up with, that was brilliant. Also I saw what the farmer himself was doing for most of the day and from what I saw he was usually off working on his own.

If there are more farms near you it could be worth contacting them to see if they need anyone working there. That is the type of thing i would not mind doing.

Do you have access to the internet all the time? You could consider something where you can work from home online maybe.

I would like a job where I can work with a small group of people, or the same people every week. And one with a routine that is MOSTLY the same, but just a little different each day, so I don't get bored.

My AS/ADD son is only 12 but has already decided that the local library is the place for him, oh, and its close to home so he can still live with us when he is all growed up. ':D'

Programming: a mind, an idea, and a computer to make it real.
Gardening: because plants don't need pointless chatter yet you're rewarded anyway.

Light house attendant my god that would be a cool job. People with aspergers are geared towards isolation so I'd say if anyone deserves a job like this its us. I'd go for this job if I wasn't half way into getting a chemistry degree. I think being a research chemist will be a decent job too though cuz although I'll be working with people, we all have a common goal and the days will be dedicated to that so there'll be no mindless small talk and social BS.
