I am going to see my doctor tommorow to start the long road to sorting out my problems and, if I'm right, finally geting the disganoses of Aspergers I should have received a long time ago.

I am quite frightneing but I thought it may help others if I kinda of wrote a jornal of my progress here. I just hope she doesn'yt laugh at me or tell me I'm a mad losers of anything.

That's the problem with surprises. You don't know if they're good or bad until they happen.

If you go in with to many hard and fast expectations you may come away confused and agitated. Especially if you feel you didn't communicate things well. Just be mentally prepared to answer things you didn't anticipate.

Good luck Jacs - I have just managed to find the courage to phone to make an appointment with my GP to discuss this. Unfortunately that appointment is not until 31st March ... plenty of time for me to chicken out.

I am terrified for the same reasons as you.

Will be following your progress.

I can tell you one thing that will come, if you actually do get a spectrum diagnosis, that is.

The "What now?" stage.

I'm still at that stage six months after my DX. It's great to have some answers as to what's been up all this time, but knowing what to do about it is quite another thing. That's gonna take time.

In short, getting the DX is just the beginning.

If you do get it, welcome to the journey.

I wish you good luck, too.

I made my first phone call towards DX today. Getting an appointment is well in the future for me in this part of the world. I'm wondering, how many of us on WP are not from the states.

Well I have just come back from seeing my GP and she was very undertsnading and agreed that from what she knows of me,(of course she doesn't know the half of it), that I am most likey on the austicitic specturm.

Am going to be seeing the local mental health team to take things further and get a firm diagnoses :)

I know there is a long way to go but I feel so much better that she didn't think I was mad.

At least stage 1 of many is complete.

Glad to hear it went well(ish).

I am still terrified but it is good to hear that you were not told "no way".

Do you have any idea what the local mental health team involvement is? What will they do in their step?

I'm not sure, didn't really ask, was just so relieved she didn't think I was mad!

I guess they will talk to me and either dignoses me if they can or ref me to someone who can?

Cool. This is about the best outcome you can expect from a GP.
