I love to read very much but the thing I hate about it is reading aloud. I read silently much faster than I can read aloud, and I always feel worn out after reading aloud. About the only time I do this is when I'm in the car with my mother and she asks me to read something to her when she's driving, or else when I'm reading (I possess the seemingly rare talent of being able to read in the car; I can read virtually under any condition, even in a noisy, crowded ballroom, which seems to amaze all my pals there), and there's something I come across that I think she might think is interesting. I never liked reading aloud in school and would only read when called upon.

Does anyone else here hate reading aloud?

I also hate reading aloud, hilary. I always stumble over words, and sometimes the text starts to bleed together and I lose my place. I also have a hard time taking breaths when I'm reading, and will run out of breath at awkward spots (like in the middle of a sentence). I also can not really absorb the meaning of the words if I have to read them aloud.

In high school it was terrible. Not just the physical act of reading aloud, but being emotionally delayed and being made to read stuff aloud you wouldn't even think about.

I hate reading aloud- I struggle over words and mispronounce them, probably because I feel incredibly nervous.
I'm ok reading aloud to the kids though- although I still get the words in the wrong order sometimes and mispronounce words.

Reading aloud :(

Stumbling really badly over words, going too fast or too slow..etc

I have bad memories of teaching assistants at Primary School making me re-pronounce words again and again because Id start them with one accent and change to the other half through long words or just pronounce them differently because of my accent.
Actually generally a lot of teasing because of my accent.

I tend to enjoy reading aloud. I look at it as a chance to practice my enunciation. Despite the fact that I hate my voice, I've been told before that I could do well as a narrator. This is likely because I speak very clearly and don't have even a trace of an accent.

Reading aloud is not really a problem for me if I can read the text silently before to have a picture of what it is in my mind. Then I can read better. But it is true that I read either too fast or too slow, and too loud or not enough, or that I do not add the intonation - or too much. If I know the text well I can act it - I enjoy acting and am not bad at it, but life is not like a set !

I am nervous when I read aloud, except when it is for acting.
