...or other forms of caffeine.

I am curious because it helps me feel less depressed but it makes me more anxious. I think I am going to try to quit it.

Thoughts :?:

I drink it in the morning, every morning, but seldom in the afternoon. I don't drink other caffeinated beverages. I don't like pop, I drink herb tea.

I won't give it up. I am fine if I stick to the way I drink it right now.

Do drink coffee. One can over do it.

Traditional caffinated beverages like coffee, tea, and Mountain Dew, are not as bad as energy drinks. Mountain Dew is the highest caffine content of the old kind of soft drinks (non energy drinks), and its easier to drink one while driving long distances for work than it is to drink a hot coffee.

But if you drink coffee, not to stay awake while on the job, or to stay awake while driving, but just to relieve depression then - well that means that you're self medicating for depression. Thats a different matter

You oughta get some help about that.

I don't drink coffee because I dislike the taste. I do get caffeine from other sources though, I drink a lot of coke and an occasional energy drink as well. I've never noticed it affecting my mood, or my energy level really for that matter.

I have to have two cups of coffee in the morning in order to wake up, and than I'm fine until it's time for my afternoon tea.

I drink tooo much coffee. I'll have like 2 cups in the morning, then like 2 glasses of iced coffee in the afternoon. I'm just a big coffee drinker. I used to drink it to help me stay awake but it dosen't really work anymore. Now it is just a habit, and if I go for a while without it I get cranky and terrible caffeine withdrawl headaches. I'm working on weaning myself off of it, it's like crack to me lol.

I gave up caffeine for years and I found it helped with my anxiety. It was like an agitant that got me wound up. However, it didn't fix any of my problems, just made them a little easier to deal with. Once I was able to deal with more core issues and become more comfortable in my own skin, I was able to return to drinking caffeinated beverages like coffee without any real detriment. I still control my caffeine intake though, because I use it to stay awake and it is much more effective if you only have it in doses instead of all the time. And that cup of coffee or Coke (I drink the 7 oz cans occasionally) tastes so much better when you aren't drinking it all the time.

Yes. I recently did a lot of research in the mechanics of coffee brewing and various techniques for making different sorts of coffee at home. My favorite so far is manual pour-over style.

+/- of caffeine for me:

+ It helps me stay awake, obviously. Extremely useful in class or driving long distances!
+ It can improve my focus, and I feel like I gain a few IQ points while caffeinated.
+ There are times that caffeine improves my social skills slightly! I can think of what to say a bit quicker.

- Sleep at night is nearly impossible while caffeinated, so I can't have caffeine at night.
- Caffeine can sometimes aggravate anxiety.
- I can build tolerance, leading to lethargy upon the caffeine wearing off.

I used to drink coffee occasionally until it started interfering with my heartbeat about 15 years ago.

Iced tea gives me similar results -- I only drink it if I have diluted it heavily.

I drink coffee, and happen to enjoy having a cup on Sunday mornings while reading the paper. Sometimes I like espresso straight as an after dinner treat.

I drink coffee to increase my low blood pressure, hence I'm used to it. It's like medicine, but without the need to drink it I'd definitely prefer tea. The effect of coffee on my well--being is indirect as low blood pressure itself makes me feel weak and shaky, not the coffee.

I don't. Used to have one occasionally with co-workers. After having my second baby I developed sensitivity to it so I can't even eat coffee candies or coffee cake any more.

I do eat chocolate everyday with no side effects, though.
