Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if any of you used a certain word or phrase to calm yourself down when you are starting to have a meltdown? I would like some words to use when my anxiety gets bad so I don't have an outburst or a meltdown.
Thank you,

Katie

I've been told I say "okay" repeatedly, though that's not particularly inspirational.

I've also been told I say "okay" in stressful situations. I don't really notice it. My tendency is more to sway back and forth if standing to calm myself down.

Lately, I have been telling myself to "Settle down" and that seems to help, but I was just curious about what other phrases are used.

No words come. I rock instead and fixate on something I can see.

I think that physically stepping away from the situation or stressor (ie. getting some fresh air to clear your head) can almost always be helpful, too.

Before I started the medication, when I got really stressed I could sometimes calm down if I started running multiples in my head: 2,4,6,8...68,70,72,etc.

I tend to just say 'no' or 'stop it'...which isn't at all helpful.

I don't really use labels, I just notice the stress and then 'tell' my body or mind to stop resisting it, and then everything is tickety boo.

no, I have no defense except retreat. I have used affirmations in the past though to help me not get sick. It really works. Negative self talk really does reinforce a negative situation, so I try the opposite when I think of it and it works like a charm.
