Announcement soon
Someone is actually going to do some proper research into cannabis for autism so rumour has it, should be an announcement later today...
Cannabis 4 Autism on facebook : http://www.facebook.com/CFourA
That's good to hear. Research into Cannabis in general needs to be done. Almost all the old assertions made in the past have proven to be false, thus leaving it in a gray area of understanding. Real dedicated research must be done, and without foregone conclusions as in the past

So, um, how about linking to whoever it is that's going to be doing the research, rather than to a facebook page, where we then have to sift through numerous postings to figure out which one is related to this post? Unless you just wanted people to look at your facebook page, or something.
Another benefit that was missed:
decreased social anxiety.

still waiting for announcement...
'amotivational syndrome' is a myth. Google it.
Getting too high is called overdose when you are supposed to be using something as medicine. Freaking out is recreational use, not medical!
Another benifits :
- Help sleeping
- Increase sens of humour, this is a sativa type of high, not all cannabis strain do this, most of street cannabis actually are indica strains (which some people relate to depression)
- My sens are much less sensitive, high pitch sound and brigth ligth are bearable
- I never freaked out on cannabis, well in Quebec we're well known for the quality of our buds, so freaking out might be more related to quality
- Motivation is MUCH higher when I smoke. I can do task I don't give a f*** without problems.
- Headache/asthma gone
- Impulsivity control
- creativity and focus control!
- Some say (me too) that reflexes are faster while high. probably due to better neurotransmission (which non-psychoactive component found in cannabis help doing)

emuman, sativa's strain are well known for their higher levels of CGB and CBD. Those are cannabinoid (non-psychoactive) and they are present in the human brain, so we could say we all have some weed in our head ... They are present in the immune and nervous system.
The CBD (Cannabidiol) has shown to relieve convulsion, inflammation, anxiety, and nausea, as well as inhibit cancer cell growth. Also Cannabidiol is shown to decrease activity of the limbic system and to decrease social isolation induced by THC. The limbic system support a variety of functions including emotion, behavior, long term memory, and olfaction.
The CGB (Cannabigerol) work with the alpha-2 adrenergic receptor, which include thoses fonctions:
- Mediates synaptic transmission in pre- and postsynaptic nerve terminals
- Decrease release of acetylcholine (neurotransmitter, memory and learning)
- Decrease release of norepinephrine (neurotransmitter, attention, sleep, learning, emotions, dream)
- Contraction of sphincters of the gastrointestinal tract (anti stomachache, nervous/anxiety feeling?)
- Relax gastrointestinal tract(presynaptic effect) (anti nausea effect)
- Decreased aqueous humor fluid production from the ciliary body. (focus muscle for the eye)
-...
This is a small list I've gattered rapidly through wikipedia and things I've search for some time.
Indica normally have a higher THC:CBD ratio, sativa like Cannatonic as a lower ratio (1:1, just like Sativex, a controled medication). For people with autism or ADHD, the lower this ratio is, the better.
Research in cannabis usage as medicine is new, but still I've seen a huge improvement in the understanding in the past few years. Strain type are so different in their effect that the more we know about this, the more relief we could get from that "devil drug".
Propaganda is for population control, knowledge is for population freedom!! !
decreased social anxiety.
Total opposite for me.
Same here... I love the stuff but it doesn't make me want to talk to people any more than usual (which is very little at best)
it really for me at least is good for introspection and managing long-term anxiety, not situational social anxiety

Yes, I benefit from the 'Increase in social anxiety'
I call it a 'Decrease in dangerous social overconfidence'. (It stops me acting like a twat in public - because It makes me more socially aware. If you call that anxiety, fine!)

About UF4A
The Unconventional Foundation for Autism, UF4A for short, is a non-profit organization. The mission of UF4A is three fold: (1) to raise awareness and support for families afflicted with this mysterious and misunderstood condition known as Autism; (2) to raise funds for cannabis-based medical research and clinical trials; and (3) to campaign for a rescheduling of cannabis from Schedule 1 narcotic (no accepted medical benefits) to a lower schedule so that the appropriate research may be conducted, and so that all patients have access to medication. A listing on Schedule 1 is tantamount to a research blockade and, frankly, is unacceptable where millions continue to needlessly suffer and subject to criminal punishment should they choose to use cannabis under the direction of their physician. The Schedule 1 listing fails to reflect the prevailing medical view that cannabis has accepted medical benefits. UF4A is quickly becoming a leading advocate in the fight for nationwide investigation, research and analysis of the legalization of Medical Marijuana.
The partnership promises to advance the innovative medical autism research headed by Executive Director Mieko Hester- Perez. The Unconventional Foundation Autism’s partnership focus is to bridge the gap between parents, scientists, and medical professionals to provide a better quality of life for our children diagnosed with the misunderstood condition known as Autism.

Thanks for the update. It must have been frustrating to expect the announcement, then have it delayed.
I have to say, though, I don't see anything new in this press release. Two groups which are trying to prove that cannibis has legitimate medical uses (which I do believe to be true. Whether ASDs are one of the uses I do not know.) have decided to work together. There doesn't appear to be any new study, or breakthrough, or anything of that nature.
It also appears that Cannabis Science, Inc. is a much more "serious" group - they're actually doing research. You know, with actual MDs and PhDs, and labs, and ongoing studies. I have a good deal of respect for them, and will watch with interest.
From their website (which is almost painful to use, what with its annoying music and distracting, multiple animations.), The Unconventional Foundation for Autism appears to be an advocacy (aka marketing) group. While there certainly is a place in the world for marketing, I have seen so much meaningless doubletalk come from marketing groups that I automatically view them with suspicion. Not so much respect.
Edited to add:
I do have respect for Ms. Perez, and am glad that she has found something that works for her, and her son. I don't blame her for wanting to publicize the fact that she has found something that works for them - I just am uneasy because it is too easy for this kind of thing to become The Way, The Truth, and The Life for those who are directly involved.
