My middle aged husband has recently been diagnosed Aspie. It has been an incredibly long journey (10+ years) to get to this recognition. We have seen many counsellors, psychologists, doctors, over the years, but no-one suggested Aspergers until about 3 months ago. I was wondering how others adults in Australia became diagnosed and found the right professional to go to?

Unfortunately he lost his job as a production/packing assistant on the same day he got a confirmed diagnosis of Aspergers. he was just told he was not "taking" to it. My husband thought everything was going well, so we are pretty clueless as to why he lost his job. other work issues have cropped up throughout the years. eg: complaints about being too loud, talkative on random subjects, personality problems etc. He is utilising the help of a Disability Employment Agency (he also suffers depression) to help find the right sort of work for him.

I would be interested to hear how others in Australia have found the support of Centrelink, employers and other support services. Diagnosis late in life seems quite rare.
