24 years old and undiagnosed / not sure. I've had asperger's mentioned before, and collective feedback from different peers (isolated) who know about it suggest I'm very likely an aspie, and on the higher functioning end of the spectrum, but definately not 'normal'. I've even had people ask me if I have it out of the blue, after in-depth conversations about politics, science or IT. I've usually done well at school, and now currently in full-time employment, so this hasn't really a problem for me, except when unstructured group environments etc are involved, which I tend to avoid if possible. The main issue really driving me up the wall is failing to socialise in the way NT's do, and maintain friendships and connect with others. I've also noticed I have a big issue with body language, non-verbal cues, and eye contact, but only in recent years after actively thinking about it.

AFAIK there are some pro's and cons that could be associated with diagnosis.

CONS:
Monetary cost
Stigma of having a 'syndrome'
I have also done reserve service and quite enjoy things firearms-related. Getting diagnosed is possible/likely to have a detrimental impact on obtaining a firearms license, even though I'm definately not a danger to myself and others, and have no criminal record. If anyone knows of this issue in Australia, please let me know.

Pros:
Getting professional advice
Finding how I match criteria and areas I most need to improve on the 'weak' points, and how to do this
Understanding learning styles better
Potential use of medication or therapy that may assist.

What do you think? Any advice?
Also I'd be interested to know if anyone's been prescribed any medication relating to asperger's, or what can help with these sorts of things?
