Is it true that AS is heriditary? Do y'all know someone in your family that has it also?

if you have it and your male there is a 90% your male son will have it, very hereditary

There's a lot of people posting here and elsewhere who have started to suspect they have AS after one of their children was diagnosed. My father, upon meeting a diagnosed AS kid through his work, suddenly recognized a lot of traits in me, himself, and his own father as well. So I think it's definitely heriditary - though far as I know the exact genes into play haven't been figured out yet.

What is chance that male with AS and female with AS would have a boy with AS?

There was nobody in my family that had any PDD's. Mine probably came from the MMR vaccine when I was about 18 mo. old. About a few months later I found out I had Asperger's Syndrome. Now I am considered an HFA, since I have made improvements, but I still have AS.

I believe AS is hereditary. My father has AS - I am his illegitimate child who he walked away from in 1960 leaving my mother no choice but to have me adopted. His son by his marriage has AS (my half brother) and my half brother's daughter also has AS. I also have a full brother who was also adopted, and he shows signs of AS too. I am certain I have AS but my children seem to be NT; they have some foibles - who doesn't? - but they have successfully coped in every way to date.

I have AS, my oldest son has Moderate Autism (HFA), my youngest son possibly has AS and several other family members on my father side are on the spectrum.

As far as me and my family knows, no one has AS or anything on the spectrum. I was diagnosed in the late 1990's at the age of 22.

hubby is AS, one son is AS, daughter is going for dx now........within hubby's extended family, it's possible that all of his siblings (4) and his dad & mum are aspies or have "aspie-like tendencies". ( no one else in his family will submit to go for testing~ but boy you should see the family get-togethers! )

No one in my family has any dx's including me but we're all very eccentric, so i'm sure i'm not hte only one. That's my fathers family, but i'm very like my mum, whose kinda the black sheep of her family and i don't know them so well. Maybe there has to be something from both parents to make someone have AS, my dad's very social but many members of his family are strange, as i've said. And my mum's just plain strange!! !

Two of my female cousins have AS and one of my male cousins is HFA. That's 4 kids (including me) in one generation. None of our parents have AS or Autism symptoms, but my grandfather was decidedly "odd" and from the family anecdotes that went around, he was HFA at least.

I'm fairly positive that my mother is on the spectrum, if not as much as me, enough to be noticed. She's learned to hide a lot of things and doesn't really seem to stim much but she has high sensitivity to sound and social and coping skill issues. I stim in unusual ways(to my knowledge) as I tend to tongue my teeth(trace the edges with the tip of my tongue and go through the gaps) and I put pressure on my eyes by using my palms, causing myself to see crazy patterns and colors.(depending on lighting in the room). I do the normal stuff like finger rolling/tapping and a couple others. My mom refuses to go for testing, Im going to go as soon as I get out of the air force(they wont help me).

I did not think so at first, but the more I learn about AS the more I can see that my father has traits (not a fullblown case of it though). My mother does too, but less so, she is more in the realm of OCD.

My husband also has traits, and 2 of our children do (1 is diagnosed).

If there is a vaccine (or [insert other external varible here]) issue it could be that the AS brain is more vulnerable to certain chemicals... I have seen it posited that AS brains respond differently to psychiatric meds, for instance. All purely specualtive, but something to consider.

I believe 100% that it is hereditary, but that the degree of functionality is controlled or determined by external influences (not just chemical, but attachment to parents and family, etc).
