I hate change if it involves anything physical, like going from one temperature to another or moving from one activity to another but from the neck up I want new stuff to entertain me and think about. It's like I'm in two pieces. Anyone else like this?

Very much so. I like new ideas and stuff to make me think. If it becomes boring then I'm moving on to something else. But other parts of my life I'm very rigid and like that.

If it interests me, my mind can remain on the same topic for hours or even days without tiring of it. If it doesn't particularly interest me, my mind can remain on the same topic for an hour or two. Whatever is the opposite of ADHD, I must have that.

Absolutely!

I'm a creature of habit and hate it when stuff disrupts it, but at the same time I long to do things that expose me to new things. I find it very confusing to have totally opposing feelings at the same time.

I'm that way too, I don't mean that constant a change in topics of interest. I'm just contrasting the joy I feel when I find a new topic of interest or a band I really like and the resistance I feel to moving physically from one thing to another.

I think I don't understand. You said you like new things to entertain you. :?: Do you mean over the longer term?

I feel like this all the time, I think some of it with me is to do with compulsions and addictive behaviours, and inertia. Because sometimes I want to move on but I can't seem to. It's a strange feeling, and everything seems to contradict itself. Sometimes the feeling of a need for change builds up and builds up until I do something completely spontaneous and random, and then I spend the next few days or so afterwards feeling very uncomfortable and clinging to routines until I calm down again and return to normal, then after a while the cycle starts over again....

I guess so. I don't mean frequently leaving one interest behind for a new one. Perhaps the word "crave" is the wrong word to use. You didn't mention how you felt about making physical changes.

I am in a near-constant state of mild stimming (mostly moving my toes), but I can become somewhat inertial regarding larger physical changes.

Same here; I love my daily routine, and can get quite upset when it is disrupted. However I also crave change, to see and experience new things. Can a person have totally opposing feelings at the same time? I do. :P

Change and variety topic

The two are mutually exclusive terms. One does not imply the other.

H 8) aving said as much, I am in agreement with the OP.

I probably should have titled it " Do you hate change but love variety" because the word crave suggests a need for frequent change in variety. Anyway, case in point, I'm lucky that I have a flexible job schedule where I go from site to site and it doesn't really matter when it gets done as long as it's today because I can't seem to get my butt out of this chair. On the other hand a FB friend posted a link to some really nice photographs of an unusual nature and I'm happy about that. I posted a link in the artsy thread btw.

I am very resistant to change that I do not initiate. But I do like to experience new things and go to new places. I just can't go to new places alone, even if it's a store on my own street. I've always been embarrassed about this.

I went to Europe a couple years ago with someone else. I loved exploring other countries, but I was very, very anxious staying at a home which was not mine. I think I drove the host a bit nuts because of it.

Thanks for this thread!

Yes, this is exactly the problem I have. I crave change, but don´t seem to get around to doing it, so I end up doing the same old usual things, and then feel depressed about it. Or, I forgo a routine and try something new, only to find that I didn´t like it as much as my usual thing, so I regret it, or feel like something is wrong and I´m missing something.

Yes, I have 2 opposing feelings, in a big way!

Ah, just can´t win. :(
