Special Education Classes?

I am very close to getting a diagnosis of AS or some other ASD. If I would happen to get diagnosed, would I be put into Special Education Classes? I have good grades in normal classes. I definately do not want to be placed in them, because in my school those classes are filled with the most dramatic gossipers of all time and I CANNOT DEAL WITH GOSSIP.

If your not in them now and doing good in normal classes then I do not see why they would put you in them. They did not diagnose for Aspergers when I was in school they mistook my AS for ADHD so they put me into special education. When I was evaluated for Aspergers in August they found no signs of learning disabilities so I was pretty much screwed out of a proper education. I guess they would have detected any learning disabilities when they tested you and would have told your parents. Have your parents ask your doctor.

I was in special education because I had learning problems because I learned different than others. At first it was because I couldn't talk and I was placed in there and then it was because I needed to catch up with my education because my previous school had held me back in education by not teaching me anything other normal kids learn. They treated me like I was slow and ret*d so they gave me the same school work over and over and I already knew how to do it. I was bored. But I did it anyway thinking you were supposed to because it was school and school is where kids go and do the same things over and over.

But I mainstreamed special ed from second grade up until I graduated from high school. But 5th grade I didn't do special ed because I refused it. Same as in 6th grade.

My school was in a working poor area so special education pretty much where they warehoused the learning disabled so they would not disrupt the normal classes.

Probably not. You'll get some testing accomodations if you need them, and maybe a social skills class, if they have them at your school. Which, honestly, I WISH I'd had when I was in school! I accidentally caught the end of one lesson the other day about how to gracefully end conversations. I'm 37, and it was really helpful!
