I don't mind the photo. It looks like basic stock imagery.
What I do not like is the line:
Quote:
"Greg, the doctor has discovered that your brain does not work the same as most people’s…” That is how the discussion with my 8-year-old started…
I think that's an awful way to start that kind of discussion. That stopped me from reading the actual article and it bugs me every time I come here because that stupid line is bold-faced so I see it every time.
You know how I told my 11 year old?
I said, "You know how you forget things, have trouble completing assignments, the teacher keeps reminding you to stay on task and everything seems rushed?" [waited for his agreement] "It's because you have a thing called Aspergers Syndrome. It changes how you perceive things and it can be harder to focus on things you aren't interested in. I have Aspergers, too. I know how you feel and how easy it is for things to get away from you. A lot of people have Aspergers and your school and teacher know how to help you so things are a bit easier. Aspergers is something you're born with and it stays with you. But it's not all about letting people accommodate you. You will have to do a little more work to stay focused, remember things, and pick up skills. I'm still learning."
He was on board.
I would
never tell a child that his brain works differently than everybody else.
