In the future will aspies become the dominant type of people or will NTs always be the most common type of people?

In my opinion its unlikely that NTs will be become more rare because in about 100 years from now aspergers may become extinct since they might find a cure for autisim and AS so it will only be NTs ruling the planet eventually. Then again though they always need people with AS to invent things so it would be there loss if they killed us off

This brings to mind a very plausible fear that I and some others hold.

There currently exists a prenatal scan to detect Down's Syndrome in fetuses. The idea is so the parents can prepare in advance. However, since the scans have been used, the majority of fetuses identified as having Down's were aborted.

So suppose, in the hunt for a cure, we identify an indicator we can detect before birth. It'd be like a genocide, but more subtle and painless.

What if autism was present day evolution

Also, aren't autistic's sacred in certain cultures? We have the ability to train to become a shaman..

Also, I don't like all this talk about a cure.. what's it supposed to cure besides not being a minority

I suspect that in 100 years autism as we know it today will be largely eradicated. There are too many people that want to cure it and in 100 years I suspect we will have the knowledge to do so.

Alternatively, the zombie apocalypse will have commenced and autistics will be sacrificed to the hoards as an NT survival strategy.

Either way, no autism.

All of this is entirely irrelevant, since the human species will destroy itself anyway in less than 100 years. Most likely this will be on December 21st, 2012. I hope, I hope!

I doubt humanity will ever make it to be a type 1 civilization. The world will probably not end in 2012, but possibly within the next 50 years. I don't think it will be because of a plague, a zombie apocalypse, an alien invasion, or a natural disaster, but probably from ourselves. As soon as Iran (or any other country for that matter) gets their hands on nuclear weapons it will be like this... "what? You're not Islam? *boom*" And then the rest of the world will be like "holy **** they launched a nuke at us, lets send 50 of them back", and then 95% of all people are dead, and those who are left will be forced into a survival of the fittest. At that point, if anyone survives, civilization would need to completely start over.

But then again, all we need to do is find a planet made entirely of gold and other rare and valuable materials before any of this happens, and greed will lead the way into expanding humanity across the galaxy.

I agree SammichEater. That is my biggest worry too, that's why the 100 year comment is there. I just hope for a quick end in 2012.

Since NT stands for neuroTYPICAL, if people with AS outnumbered those without it, then AS would become the default 'neuroTYPICAL' condition.


Unlikely, since the very reason the condition is recognized as a disorder is that it is NOT the norm.

And IQ myths aside, it IS a disorder because it prevents us from functioning as efficiently (on many levels) from day to day than someone with a neurotypical brain. Being smarter loses some of its advantage if you can't apply what you know, or integrate it socially, as smoothly and quickly as someone with only an average level of intellect.

That all may be true, but taking away all children born with an atypical brain will have it's effect on the development of society. I don't think that an IQ myth really matters, it is more just seeing the world in different terms.

Beside if most people who have made radical developments had integrated better into socially, they wouldn't have worked on ideas that their colleagues thought were crazy.

Don't get me wrong, I’m not deluded into thinking that we are all Einstein or AS is some great gift. Yet with AS you will almost never see or solve a problem in the same way as the person next to you, and that does have value.

if everyone had AS it would equally be terrible, I can't see a society built like that being very functional.

We'll probably always be a minority group if their are people who refuse to abort certain fetuses. But b/c I think we've always been a minority we probably will never be the majority populous.

Given the difficulty that people on the spectrum have in finding mates it is likely that people on the spectrum will be in the minority.
