Updated information on Autism awareness event.
I’m seeking to develop an adult Asperger support group in Central California Region from Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo. I’m looking for adults with Asperger who would be interested in participating in support groups and social gatherings.
The group will be facilitated by neuro-typical people with both personal and professional interests in High-Functioning Autism.
My vision is to find student teachers, and students studying psychology in my region who would be receptive to facilitating an informal group of Asperger adults to meet for coffee every two to three months (maybe once a month) depending on the interest in participation, and weekend student schedules.
From my own experience with Aspergers, meeting with student teachers for pizza proved to be “an ice-breaker” -- as they were interested in the influences educational experiences (especially non-traditional education) had on our lives; as over several years ago, nothing was understood about high-functioning Autism.
Some ideas on activities relate to “the arts” and creative-writing; as these activities may be beneficial where high-functioning Autism is involved. One Asperger adult I met at a meeting participates in a group that plays African drums.
Please feel-free to respond with questions and ideas for activities. I also respond to private emails.
Important: The Central Coast Autism Spectrum Center is having it’s Third Annual The Walk for Autism & Autism Awareness Fair in San Luis Obispo at the Mission Plaza, is on Sunday, April Third.
Participation in the Walk/Fair has only grown since the first event two-years ago; hence a chance to raise awareness for adults with Autism and Asperger.
Thank-you for your consideration.
