Were you late, early, or on time with these two? Looking at a lot of "early signs of autism" lists, i matched the more subtle ones like not having eye contact and not smiling when smiled at, but some of the big ones, like speaking and walking late, i don't at all because i was early with them. When i was little and my mom took me for all those check ups to make sure i was developing on track, the doctor always said that i was ahead of other kids in my speech and movement. I know with AS the early speech is common, but then a lot of people say they walked late. My mom says that i learned to walk quick, had great balance, and as soon as i learned to walk she had to start blocking parts of the house off because i would walk away. With talking I could answer questions and stuff well, but, of course, when it came to social speaking my mom says she thinks i was unusual, like with initiating conversation(and then social issues were pretty obvious in preschool but were always called "shyness"). Anyway... Please answer the poll(for other people with ASD) and elaborate if you want to.

I spoke a little early (still in the average range) but my speech development (in terms of syntax and vocab) was ahead of my peers...I spoke like a "little adult". I did go around repeating lines from story books and reversed pronouns a little bit,,,,,,,,,,, apparently. I also walked on time.

Walking at 14 months. Talking, I was late thanks to my hearing loss but I was babbling from an early age and then stopped during my hearing loss.

I also walked early, talked early. I could stand on my feet as early as one year old, used words, and when one and half, I walked and talked. (According to a recent family research which is required for DX.)

My daughter was walking by 10 months and speaking in full sentences by the time she was 1 1/2.

I got the same "little adult" description. I always thought it was because I spent more time with adults than other children when I was growing up, but it didn't change when I started school. I think I talked at about the usual time, maybe a bit early, and I'm told I did the same thing with memorising and repeating books. I read early, but the memorising came from and idea of my mothers. When she got sick of reading the same books to me over and over, she recorded her reading on tape so I could listen to it whenever I wanted.

I walked very early. I'm told I could pull myself around the furniture at 6 months, walk by 10 months, and climb by one year. They took the side off my cot not long after, as I would just climb out of it whenever I wanted.

As far as I know I walked on time, but did not speak clearly for a long time. My sister was the only one who could understand me. In infant school the teachers used to call her in to translate for me. She loved it, and I adored her so all was ok. :P
When I was a baby my Mum thought I was blind, when I was a toddler she decided I was deaf. When I was older than that and it had already been confirmed that I was neither death nor blind she used to get my sister to run around behind the doctor in medical appointments so I would look in the right direction at the right time. Otherwise I just sat there like a lump.

I put talked late and walked late, but really I had a tiny bit of speech, then lost it, then experienced a speech delay. And as for walking, they almost ended up putting me in leg braces but then opted for dancing-lessons-as-physical-therapy instead (so my mom took me to ballet lessons of all things and literally molded my legs through the movements since I couldn't do them myself).

It is quite subjective. I walked at 13 months and was using phrases (I now know this is ecolalia) at 12 months.

My son ASD crawled at 5.5months (so early) but didn't walk until 17.5months so on the later side of average. He had 3 words at 6 months for 2 weeks and then no words until after his third birthday.

My daughter crawled at 12 months and walked less then 2 weeks later. She was saying singular words at 8 months and now at 2 she can say anything. (she can even say supercalafradgalisticexpialadocious) she said it the other day.
