When I was a kid my diet was extremely limited and although I am now a lot better I still not keen on eating unfamiliar or ‘incorrect’ food.

For example if I am out am want a cheese sandwich for snack, unless I can find one that’s on the right bread, with the right cheese etc. I will just simply go hungry.

It’s not that I do not like other version it’s just I’m very much out of my comfort zone eating foods I don't regularly eat. I know it sounds silly but familiar food makes me feel safe.

Anyone else know what I mean and fee like this?

Yeah, definitely. If someone wanted to poison me, it would be pretty easy. I eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day -- and have for months and months. When I'm on my own for dinner, same lack of variety. When I'm eating with someone else, we tend to cycle through the same three or four meals over and over again. I agree that it's comforting and safe-feeling. And based on similar posts in the past, this is pretty common.

I eat at the same times every day, cycling through a very limited number of recipes. I never eat out, because that adds potential social problems to the burden of unfamiliar foods and eating times. When I travel I carry food along for the trip and book a "suite" with kitchen facilities for any extended stay.

Unfamiliar food is simply wrong and unsatisfying, so if I do force myself to try something new for a meal, I often eat the usual and proper meal an hour later. (Yes, that shows after awhile.)

One thing I insist on every day, regardless of what else I eat --- I MUST have a salad. A day without fresh veggies is a day without sunshine.

I have ate the same breakfast and lunch every day for some time now. In the last week I've discovered that I have food allergies and can no longer eat the breakfast and lunch I eat every day. This literally has me feeling sad.

If I have something I like, I will eat it a bunch of times in a row. Usually it takes two weeks for me to get sick of it, and then I go onto the next thing that I'll eat two weeks in a row.

Yes I know how you feel. This is how I felt very recently, but once I began trying various new foods that I liked I began to take up an interest in trying new things to add to my diet. After eating the same food for so long, I no longer felt content. The good feelings that they gave me were gone and would probably take months maybe even years to gain back the kind of pleasure that my regular food gave me.

I have a sweet tooth and I always have candy or sweets on my mind but since we don't have them, I just don't eat. But I force myself to eat because I need to eat. Every dinner I cook pasta or mac and cheese. I now make myself a a fruit smoothie. It's with milk, vanilla yogurt, and fruit and I blend it and there is my snack. It's like eating it all at once in one cup. I don't mean measuring, I mean a cup you drink out of.

But I am able to eat other foods when it's cooked or when we eat out. I just eat the same kinds because it's easier than being at the store deciding what to buy and what I should eat or being at home and deciding what I should have for lunch or dinner or breakfast.

As a child I ate whatever we had in the house when I feel like eating but mom never let us eat out of comfort. She tell us to have left overs or have an apple. Now I do that again sometimes because I don't gain weight so I do it.

I'm not picky. I'll eat anything if it's good, and since I love food, very few foods are unfamiliar. I don't have a schedule on when I eat, but I usually eat a lot of the same foods. See my thread here.

Extremely picky to the point of nutritional risks.

Yeah, I can be like that too.

I've had pretty much the same diet since I was five. It just doesn't feel right, going out of the 'comfort zone', as it were.

Not particularly. If I can eat it and I like it, bring it on.

Try the springbok by the way. It is very nice indeed. :)

I used to be a picky eater. For many years I would refuse to eat foods which were unfamiliar to me, especially if they had a strange texture. Also, at one point I went through a phase where I only ate all-white foods.

But starting a few years ago, I made a resolve to rid myself of my selective eating habits and began to force myself to try and enjoy new foods. It worked. Now I'm up for trying just about anything. As an example, the other night I discovered that I love stuffed bell peppers.
