I am thinking of getting diagnosed for Asperger's because I really want to know that I really have it. If you have been diagnosed with Asperger's what is the process, and what was it like being diagnosed? I really want to find out but I am so worried about this. I have not told my parents about my suspicions but I am planning to tell my school guidance counselor and going from there. If you've gone through this please explain it. Thanks, Daniel

You will go over your history in much detail, complete different questionnaires like personality tests, things like that. Stuff that I wasn't able to find online.

That's what I thought might happen. How long did it take for the test and diagnosis?

I think it varies, but for me, the psychologist sent me a bunch of forms and questionnaires to fill out ahead of time, and then I met with her for about two hours. She also asked to talk to my parents about developmental milestones (and I'm in my forties) but I didn't want to involve them.

What did they do in those sessions? I can not believe they are so long!

I guess it depends on the person. For me, I had a 45-50 minute interview and filled out one non-autism based questionaire (to rule out things like bipolar, depression, social anxiety and the like). I was supposed to have 3-4 sessions total. When I went back in my second day though, I didn't do much of anything but listen to her talk: I definitely have Aspergers Syndrome (with comorbid anxiety) and do not need to return for further assessment.
