I recently noticed I'm always chewing on random objects, particularly Bic (no other kind.) lighters or things like the lid to a pint of milk or chunks of wood. I have even caught myself nibbling on one of my dogs toys once. I wonder if this isn't one of my forms of stimming? According to my parents, I never did any of the rocking or hand flapping or other obvious things like that, but I remember always chewing on my T-shirt, and when I got older I would chew on my hair. I particularly like the sound a Bic makes when you chomp down on it. I often do things just for the satisfaction of sensory stimulation. If I have a small cut or burn, I incessantly prod or poke at it with my fingernail. I don't particularly enjoy the way it feels, but it seems to do something for me.

Do any of you do things like this?

Always on my writing material, bics, pens, pencils. I notice, stop and 30 seconds later I'm doing it again lol

I used to utterly demolish pencils through chewing when I was younger. Managed to tune it down a bit, but I still keep chewing lightly on pens.

With rare exception, I find I don't like to chew pens, although when I was younger all my school pencils were dotted with teeth dimples.

Sometimes I find myself chewing on my shirt. I also chew sunflower seeds, when I start there is no stopping until there are no more.

When I'm working, I chew on pretty much anything that is within reach. I have to make sure that unsafe objects are out of reach, because I've caught myself chewing on sharp objects. I try to chew on pens, because that is the least destructive thing. I have tried to break this habit, but when I suppress it, worse habits appear, so now I just live with it. I also chew on buttons and my collar. All of my shirts have missing buttons, because I've chewed them so hard that I broke them.

I also play with scabs. It's a bad habit, but I find myself doing it without thinking.

Let's face it, chewing is just good fun. Now if only I could find something that cleans my teeth while I chew. I should not have to be jealous of my dog's white smile. :)

I don't chew on things anymore but my mum still chews on the back on pens and I caught her out because she chewed on one pen and it started playing Zac Efron. I bought the pen as a joke but it was still really funny to see her shocked by the sudden music.

As a kid I chewed on drawstrings, my shirt, pencils, pens, small toys - lots of things. I also had a biting problem. Biting other people that is.

when i was a kid i had some of those weird rubbery pencil grips (not the triangular ones, the squishy bright coloured ones that have a place for your thumb and a place for each finger) and i would chew those CONSTANTLY... now i chew on my hair, my necklace (kinda... it's a piece of metal so not really), my fingernails, my arms, etc...

I chew on my fingernails, and just about every pen I ever used.

My oldest son with AS always chewed on the necklines of his T-shirts, they would always have little holes in them there after a few wearings/washings; he also still bites his fingernails.
I have always chewed on the ends of pens and pencils and the ends of the legs on my eyeglasses.
